Simon Cowell did say something good last nite....

In the 6th season that I saw last nite, there was this one woman named Melinda and for two consecutive weeks Simon Cowell's comment about her has been how people usually come to this audition with LITTLE talent and ENORMOUS ego, yet with this Melinda is totally the other way around. It was truly a deep compliment from Simon, we could even see the sparks in his eyes while saying that. Simon is right. I see the same thing. Not just for American Idol audition, but in many real-life shows/programs. Like Survivor, Fear Factor, etc. Why is it that people love to portray themselves as far better from other participant? What have been taught by our generation about humility?

dear avichail, you have hit on my fave reality show and i cannot but agree with you. i have found simon cowell to be so blatantly rude and insolent, yet very much anticipated and sought after. i haven't seen the episode you have mentioned as yet (since it's aired a day later in my our country). as for the other part of your discussion, yes, i do believe, ppl nowadays seriously require a crash or may be an extended, thorough course in humility. we are really short of modesty these days which has been very subtly replaced by artrogance and superiority complex. thank you, more after i watch the episode...

Thank you Mimpi for your sharing. It has been an interesting competition and it gets me to evaluate more about myself because as much as I can make these comments on this discussion, who knows I might be end up acting like them, too. And I hope you'll get to see the show, soon...=)

I'm referring mostly about the participants, but I also identify myself with the judges. There are many lessons about relating to other people and self throughout this show...=)

Melinda is THE BEST! Her and Lakisha really sweep away the others in this competition! Simon is mean sometimes, but he is usually right about what he says even if he does go overboard a bit. :)

What attracts me is the continuity of Simon's comment on her and how true that is. It makes me curious to know about their background, perhaps from there we all can learn to be like them, too.

Melinda is everything that Simon says she is. She is heaps more talented than the other people and you can really see her shyness the moment she stops singing. Get her on stage performing and she lets it all go, but once that music stops she is timid again. It is a shame that more people aren't like that. As for Simon, I love him. he speaks the truth and doesn't sugarcoat anything, which is exactly how you will be talked to once you are in the business. He is just preparing all of these singers for the real world. Part of making it in the business is being able to take criticism and move on. IF you are going to break down and cry everytime someone says they don't like you, then you need to look for another career. The three judges compliment each other so well, and that is what makes them work. IF Simon wasn't rude, if Paula did'nt struggle to always say something nice, and if Randy didn't say Dog multiple times then the show wouldn't be the same. I think that a lot of people take competition too seriously and that is why they act like they are the best even if they aren't. It is sad to say, but many people are brought up that way. Things should change and I know I am doing my best to make sure my duaghter grows up with the humilty.

Dear Sunnypub, You have said it all and I agree with your points. It's truly a concern how our generation today become so self-absorbed and all. But it will not change unless we ourselves do something about it first. Instead of blaming one another, we'd do much better in breaking this vicious chain by any means we can. For you, you start with your daughter. She's very lucky to have you. May she grows up as a person of integrity cloting with humility...=)

OMG!! i do love that very humble girl Melinda Doolittle.. I've seen here from her audition to make it to hollywood and from then i admire her so so so much! She got a wonderful and powerful range of voice.. And we cant blame Simon why he's loving Melinda so much! Melinda has a big big chance to make it to the grand finals! If i were in America, i will vote for her as many as i could! I also posted Bout American Idol Season 6, and i hope you'll give me some thoughts too.. Godspeed!

Hi again Vashstampede, you are right about Melinda. Just last nite Simon himself said that Melinda was like a tigeress whereby she actually is taken as a kitten by Simon, LOL...! Hope she'll make it far because we all love to see her sing (and Lakisha, too!). Without her, it's not gonna be called a singing competition!

Well, actually I know very little about both of them. Simon mostly commented on Melinda's character. Sometimes he made the same comment on Lakisha, but little did I know about both of them. I cannot choose which one yet. I just like both of them.
