Who do you turn to?

Everyone has to have someone/something to turn to... to give meaning to their life, for comfort, for their identity. It's the thing they focus their life on. For many people, it's bars, money, work, or even s*x. I personally focus on God. We had a nice sermon in church today about idolatry. Whatever it is that is the main focus of your life is your idol. If God isn't #1, if you focus so much on making more money, on materialism, than your idol is mammon. You can't love God and Mammon. You can't live with your foot in both worlds. You either live a Godly, righteous life, or you live a fleshly life of materialism and idolotry.
I'm not trying to preach, I just wanted to share this message with anyone who is interested, because I thought it was neat. Anyone who wants to scoff at a discussion about God should go elsewhere.

Well I agree with you but sometimes we need a shoulder to cry and let out our feelings and hurtness For me my boyfriend has been there for me other than God helping me out in some difficult situations.

I turn to my friends, my family, and God. I always try to confide in those I trust.

Jesus of course is the one that I run to at all times, in all situations. I have experienced so much peace because of my faith in Jesus Christ knowing that I am completely and truly forgiven and that I have the promise of eternal life in heaven since I have been born again. It is something that I cherish deeply and appreciate more than anything and anyone else in my life. As far as earthly friends, my fiance is my best friend (also a wonderful Christian man) that I go to when I need a physical prescence in my life to turn to and seek guidance and council from. But first and foremost it is Jesus Christ :)

I've grown so much in my spirituality in the past few months. It's unfortunatly because of a disaster in my life, that I and my family feel was a Satanic attack. But God has given me so much hope a peace for the future. I will triumph over evil and this adversity will be used for good works.

There are times when we depend too much on a single person, even when we are looking for spiritual guidance. I had a very close friend, a nun who was someone I looked up to, worked to emulate and admired tremendously for her spiritual wisdom. I went on private retreats, we shared Bible studies together, we cried together as I learned and grew about God. She became very very important in my life. Then, she moved away and I didn't have that close access to her anymore. I felt like she had been ripped away from my life. Her moving left a hole in my life. I had to grieve for that loss and in the grieving I realized how much importance I had placed on her help, her guidance and just her place in my life. As a result, I learned to turn to God first and my prayer life has increased and my relationship and fellowship with God has increased. Sometimes, God will remove what we put too much importance on to keep us on the right track. Idolatry is such a big word, but it doesn't have to be an instance like with my friend. It could be that you focus so much on your job or your work that it becomes an obsession. That makes it an idol...something you put before God. It is very easy to do sometimes, especially for us obsessive-compulsive type personalities...and we don't always know we are doing it! But once we can recognize that we do it, we can strive to change that and make sure we take time for God in our daily lives.
