Short One Liner Responses

United States
March 4, 2007 6:06pm CST
I have noticed a few people who have posted short responses, mainly the same ones over and over again, to a discussion. One in particular then goes on to copy and paste a recipe from recipezaar and passes it off as their own. I just wanted everyone to be aware of these happenings.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention Elusive Butterfly. I love the receipes, as you have noticed. But, I have not seen any pasting. I will keep an eye open for it and turn it in if I do. We all need to be honest and have fun on here.

It really frosts my biscuits to see people like you working hard with your discussions to maintain quality and originality and then along comes a copy and paste artist to spoil it.

I am glad you mentioned this. I have 2 people who never comment on my discussions. They simply copy and paste a recipe. That is it. They do it on all the time. It really upsets me and I know that they are not reading my discussion. I have just skipped over them when I rate the comments. I hate to give anyone a negative but I am considering it if they dont quit. Do you have this problem? Is this the same problem that you are having? I also find that many are, like you said, posting a couple words in the comment. They are generic words that can be used on all types of discussions. I am usually really easy to get along with but this upsets me to no end.

I have reported them to MyLot for system abuse as they are copying directly from a website. THis is plagerism. Illegal.

Yes I have noticed and know of one who always replies to my discussions but only a few words each time, not a single quality line. I doubt it's because his English is not good enough. I appreciate those who don't have very good English but try their best to do so with a few sentences.

I also noticed that a few myLotters 'cheat' by either posting one-liners or copying/pasting from other sites, making the text pass as their own. They are usually reported and do not stay long here if they don't clean up their act. There used to be many more posters doing that, but the zero-tolerance policy currently enforced seems to be quite effective.

They are all defineately crooks not cooks and should be put in their plaice!! I don't understand why someone would just copy and paste a recipe, it is quite odd!! I will definately keep a look out when I go onto these discussions and I will give them a -!! They spend their time doing this for a couple of cents, is it worth it. The swines!!!

I noticed this today. I was perusing the cooking section and found two or three discussion titles with recipes that looked like ones I might be intersted in. Indeed, the original poster's recipe was something I wanted, but I noticed that there would be post by someone that said somthing to the effect of "thank you for that...here is my recipe for ...." The same person had done that on each of the discussions that I visited. I found that to be so obvious of a ploy to make money.

I haven´t noticed the copy and paste posts, so I´m grateful you posted this here. It´s really annoying, because all the honest answer into these copied discussions get deleted by the the site´s staff when we get close to pay out. Thanks for letting us know. I´ll keep an eye out.

Yes, I have seen many of this going on as well. I enjoy recipes and love to share them. But if someone just post a recipe and nothing else. No question or a way to start a discussion about it. I stay clear of the discussion. As I fear soon those will be deleted as well.

I haven't noticed this person yet, but if I do I will rate negatively and report it to myLot as abuse. I'm sure that you have done this already. I guess that there's nothing wrong with posting a recipe from another site, but they need to give credit to the site where they got it and use it in the context of a discussion. If we wanted to simply look at the recipe, we would go to the site ourselves. I think that today is the day that myLot will begin to delete all of the inappropriate discussions and responses and our credits and earnings will be adjusted. Hopefully these people will lose their earnings.

I haven't seen any of the copy and pasting of the recipes. I do love to look at different recipes on here so I'll keep an eye out for that. Thanks for letting us know.

When I get those, I always give them a '-'...I haven't been able to catch those that are copying/pasting as of yet but, rest assured, when the staff finds them, they'll either be 'ousted' or given a warning; probably the former at first, as I can't see the staff deleting someone without a warning...

Thanks for the heads up . That just is not fair to the rest of us . I don't think it helps anyone if someone tries to get around the rules. I have decided that trying to respond to a discussion would be a good challenge for me. It doesn't take much effort to say good job, nice picture. In the real world those comments are good and good enough. People like compliments. But it is not good enough for online. so now we can learn to stretch our rusty minds ( well I guess I should speak for myself) and come up enough "thoughts" to provide thoughtful comments .I have no problem chatting on the telephone. I just need to put those same thoughts on paper . :-)

Yes i have noticed it and wonder about what remuneration these people are recieving because i just get over one cent now on average for my posts and they are at least three to four lines long and some ofthem are way much longer. Haveyou a clue tohowmuch these people get paid?

I've noticed this myself and I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who notices this. I'm not opposed to cutting and pasting recipes from other sites, as long as the poster makes a point to credit the recipe to where they got it. It makes me insane because it's still plagerism even if it is a recipe. All the person has to do is say "I got this recipe from cooks.com, I've used it myself and...." Otherwise, they are simply taking creadit and making money off of someone else's work.

Exactly. They should also be recipes that they have tried at least once and can make a comment on how they turned out, what they like most about it, etc.

I generally dont give one liners. If I dont have anything to say, I simply dont response. If I respond, I make sure that its a worthwhile response to the person who receives it. I dont like to receive one liners, so why should I give one liners to others. I agree that there are people who cut and paste the same answer. How much ever myLot rules are there, still people do this. I hope myLot has a way to track these people and do whatever!

I have noticed a lot of one Line Responses in mine lately. I am going to start reporting them as they half the time don't even make sense or have anything to do with the Discussion.

It seems as if recipes are the new hot discussions. It started out with one person that I have as a friend that was posting a lot of recipes. Then another and another. Next think I knew, another person had posted over 300 recipes!!! Wow! That is some pretty serious recipe posting! LOL So, unless it is something I am really interested in and can respond with more besides, That sounds yummy. I am not responding to them. I don't feel that I would be really contributing. As for just copying and pasting from recipezaar...you may want to ask mylot admin about that one. :) I spend a lot of time in creating and coming up with new ideas. It is very disheartening to have someone come in and copy and paste discussions and responses.

There are alot of people trying to cheat the system here ar mylot, teh good thing is that i donn´t think that they will get away with it as long as we are aware of it and can report them. I enjoy spending time here and one line answers would not give me any amusement at all. when I start doing that - it will be the day I leave Mylot =)

I am not one to look at recipes so I would not know if there have been any pasted. If the discussions that I have posted or commented on I usually rated them negative if it is obviously been pasted so if enough of the members do that then mylot would notice and have then removed.

Yes I have noticed this as well in regards to responses, where they only use one line sometimes one word. I did notice this particular one from recipezaar, oh yes I am aware of this user.
