These two series of books have been read by millions and millions of people each all around the world. They're both mainly focused to a younger reader, especially Harry Potter but, which one do you think is better from a literary point of view? Which of the two did you like the most?

I found it easier to relate to Harry Potter than the characters in the Lord of the Rings books - and therefore easier to read.
From a literary point though I'd probably say Lord of the Rings - only because it's 50+ years old and still popular today. I mean it takes one hell of a book to stand the test of time and not just fade away into obvilion and be replaced by another author. It also wouldn't surprise me if Harry Potter was somehow influenced by Lord of the rings - they say most fantasy books are.
I'm not sure if Harry Potter will still be around in 50 years from now - book number 40-something ... Harry Potter has a midlife crisis?? - and if he is I doubt he'll still be as popular as he is today.

mhhmmm.. second time you are asking a question that I have problem answering LOL I read the lord of the rings when I was a kid - 12 or 13 years old if I"m not mistaken. It was introduced to me by a friend and had my mom's seal of approval :) I loved it then, and I still love it now.
On the other hand, harry potter is a series that grab me from the beginning. MY daughter was reading it for school and as I used to read all her books too, I read it even before she did. It was refreshing and interesting, and I was hooked :)
I find harry potter to be a more easy read than the lord of the rings. I remember struggling with some long descriptions that got me a bit bored the first time I read the lord of the rings.
But the thing is .. if I had to choose one of these two, I don't think I would be able to.

Each series of books has their individual merits, but as a fan of neither in particular, I would have to opt for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
Reading the first Harry Potter book as an adult, I was still captivated by the accessability of the story. i imagined how amazing it must be for a child to identify with Harry and to inspire the imagination.
Unfortunately, the series of novels has declined in quality generally as a visible result of writing for profit.
Generally the Rings books are acceptable to a wider audience and are certainly better thought out and written.

I'm a Harry Potter Fan through and through so DOn't expect me to Really make a fair comparison lol.
But yea I've read LOTR and I did find it quite good but It's like really slow in the middle..Travelling travelling and travelling..Whereas In HP. I think Story always has a grip on you and Is a page turner.
and I don't think that Harry Potter is in any way Influenced by LOT..It's a new concept altogether
