I have been trying to cut down my expenses and literally to live a frugal life. Anyway, I've been bringing food for lunch instead of buying everyday from stores or restaurants. God, I couldn't believe how much I can save from this! What I do is that, I bring to the office either left overs from dinner or I prepare something new before going to bed! Also, I found this nice to do since I will be able to know what really goes into my food and how sanitized and clean it was. So do you guys bring your own food to work?

Yes, off and on I will bring food to work. Usually it's just a simple sandwhich (mainly bologna) and chips. It really cuts down on costs I think. Sometimes I use to feel like I spent more money buying food while I was at work, then the amount I was making. When I worked overnights there was really no places to go out to eat except for Hardees. Maybe once a week or once every other week my girlfriend and I would meet up at Hardees and have a big lunch in the middle of the night. But it was definitely more expensive than bringing my own food.

Hello there! Thanks for your response. I agree, there are times as well when I do treat myself a good restaurant lunch but it usually eats up all my budget for the week!

Hello there. I still consider myself new here but the good people of myLot have told me that once you have reached your 100th post (whether through the creation of your own thread or when you reply) then the star will appear.

yes i bring my own food! we have four microwaves to warm it up! you can eat in the restaurant and it is cheap to eat there, but i have only half hour to eat, and i have to take off my working clothes too, so that cost me a lot of time and it leaves me 15 minutes to eat! and now i have 25 minutes!

Thanks for the response. Nice, we only have 1 microwave in the canteen and 1 toaster here in my floor. But it's actually nice to have them around, now I am more than willing to bring food from home since I can eat them when they're hot (and reheated!) =). Also, the time saved is really a good deal since as what the other myLotians said, you can use it for a quick nap!

When i was working before, i always bring my food to work. For me this is one of the way for me to cut my daily expenses. i love to cook so i never get bored with what i am cooking because i cook a different food every day for me to bring to office. I agree with you that by cooking and bring your own food to work you will be safe prom those food which we don't know how clean they are with.

My husband used to eat out a lot before we got married. Now that I cook, he takes a lunch box everyday and it is the previous night's dinner. He was fed up of eating out all the time and he eats better now that he takes home cooked food. It also saves money. Once in a while he goes out with colleagues but most of the time he carries lunch.

Yes. And my co-worker who I know is clean. We always bring enough for two and share, so it's always a surprise everyday for something new. It's a fun way to share.

very charming. i prefer home made food for my lunch instead of taking from dhaba or restaurent or hotel. it is ok if you take it once in a week but everyday outside food is not hygenic and it costs much too. so from the health point of view, we should avoid dhaba's food, if you know cooking otherwise you are bound to take from the hotel or restaurent. so we should be practical as well as economical.

I almost always bring my food to work. Not only is it far cheaper, I think I am also more productive when I do this. If I bring my food, I take a shorter lunch and usually eat at my desk where I can "myLot" and earn a few cents on the side. I also eat a lighter meal so I don't get that bloated and lazy feeling after lunch. Whenever I go eat at a restaurant for lunch, I eat too much and then I never can get properly motivated to work the rest of the day; I only want to nap!

Yes, I bring my own lunch at work. I make sure that I am the one preparing for it so I am sure that it is what I want and love to eat. In all, the lunch I have is something nutritious and really really good to eat. I only have a lunch out every payday just to treat myself for a 2-week long job. ;)

Eversince I am not used of bringing my own food even in school...grade school, highschool and not on college. I just find it easier for me to buy food. When I work up, I usually shower, etc ...I don't have time to prepare food. I'm not use of eating breakfast too. I know I would save extra cash from bringing my own food but it's just too hassle for me. Besides I don't cook, lol.

Yes, I bring my food to work. I do this because I eat really slow, and I don't have much time to buy food outside. Also, I don't get to eat much if I don't like the food. Sometimes, I have a hard time trying to decide what to eat, I end up not eating at all. Also, I get to save a lot if I cook my own food.

Bringing food to work really saves me a lot. It really costs a lot if you buy food from fast foods or restaurants. The money you'll save from these can go to some other things that you need.

I bring my own food to work occasionally. I find it a hazzle to prepare food in the morning before going to work. It is already a challenge waking up early to be in time for work, and to prepare food? No way I will sacrifice my sleep over it. In fact, I envy people who enjoys getting up early to prepare and pack lunch for work.
I only bring food if there are leftovers from dinner the day before, and only if I can easily heat and pack it just before I leave home. The reason why I bother : I am thrifty by nature. The leftovers can be my dinner for the next few days, and I don't want that.

Yes I do bring my own food for lunch at work. I have been following this practise for some years now. It basically started because of some medical issues, but now I prefer home food only as you are not always sure whats the ingredients they have used in cooking. And secondly the quality of food in our canteen was not that good..

I do because of time constraint. I have to be at my second work 30 minutes after I get off my first, and it is a 20 to 25mins drive in between so I really don't have time to come home or eat out, so I have to pack lunch in the morning, either leftover dinner or sandwich.
Then I would just eat while I am preparing stuff to start with my second job.
It's not so bad, though sometimes I miss the time that I can sit down and have quiet lunch.

When I was working, I was used to buying food in the cafeteria since workplace is more than an hour drive from home. My food wouldn't be as good as if it was freshly cooked or at least warm. But when the office provided a microwave oven where we can heat up the food, my officemates started bringing their own. Yes, it's much cheaper and you can really save a lot of money. Well, I guess my friends really enjoyed it but in my case, I didn't have the time to always prepare meals for myself so I just preferred dining somewhere to eat.

Well, I work at home now, so you could say that I always "bring my own lunch" to work.
However, when I was in business and went to work every day, I did bring a lunchbox with a sandwich and fruit to lunch, most days. I just couldn't see spending about $5 every day for lunch-- and the food wouldn't even be all that good. Sure, I could get fast food instead of going to a sandwich shop, but I really didn't want to eat all the high-calorie fast food. In a year, I saved enough for a plane ticket to Europe.

i dont. since i live on my own and will be too hard for me to prepare everything for the following day. I arrive at my pad late at night and what i wanted to do is to go to bed and have a nice rest and wake up to prepare my clothes and go to work, but still i can save little just like bringing food at work, what i do is to look for a canteen or a cheaper store or restaurant and made comparison with the expenses that ill be buying versus the needs that ill be bringing.

I actually do bring food and drinks at work because by doing so, I could save more money and spend it in the more important things needed. I avoid eating in restaurants because the food there are expensive. In fact, I enjoy the food my wife prepares more than the food in restaurants.
