Where do you place your alarm clock so its more effective? I have to place mine clear across the room so that way i have to actually get up to turn it off. I remember when i used to have it right next to my bed and i would actually turn it off with out knowing and end up waking up real late and then have to rush to get ready. So where do you place yours so you know that you will actually wake up instead of hitting the snooze?

i remember a colleague who shared a room with 3 other guys in the dormitory in the university who placed his alarm clock at the farthest end of the room and set it at the loudest level it can possibly be. he reasoned that this way, when the alarm sets off, everybody will be awakened and his 3 grumpy roommates will shout at him to "turn the damn thing off!". well, in effect, it really made him get up each time. :)
in my case, alarm clocks don't work for me all that well, especially when the snooze button is quite within your reach.
i have an internal body clock that is acquired thru practice. I wake up at exactly 6 hours from the time i sleep. (example is if i need to wake up at 6am, i need to sleep by 12mn) when you put your mind to it, you can also do it.
i experienced that when you are in a REM sleep, it's harder for you to wake up. and the mind can recognize human voices better that any other sound. when i'm deep asleep, even a rock band can't wake me. but even a whisper of my name, i could easily get up from sleep.
i guess the best alarm clock is having a good sleep.
but if you really need the aid of an alarm clock, it should be placed nearby a bedside table, placed alogside a picture that brings you happiness in this world... your reason for having to wake up everyday... :)
that way, it would make you feel better that you've woken up on time...

before, i try and put it beside me on my bed. but it was so uneffective. if i feel sleepy still, i just stop it's snoozing and i go back to sleep again.
and just like you, i put it somewhere far from me so, i will be forced to get up and stop the alarm. by then,i am more than half awake already. hehe. and it's difficult to get back to sleep anymore.

When I was in college, I'd put mine across the room for the same reason. Then I'd find that I'd get out of bed, go turn it off, and crawl right back into bed. I don't know how many 8am classes I missed because of that! Now I just use the alarm on my cell phone, which is plugged in on my headboard. For the most part, I haven't had any problems with it. I do find myself not getting up until the snooze has gone off a couple of times though.

I´ve placed mine close to the bed. once I am awaken I have such a hard time falling asleep and i am awaken reaqlly easy... so there is no snoozing for me, usually I get up as soon as the alarm goes of anyways!

Oh, I know what you mean about turning off the alarm clock and waking up way late for whatever you had to do that day - school, work, or a doctor appointment. My parents bought me an alarm clock a long time ago where you recorded a message, instead of an annoying loud sound. That worked pretty well until I'd go without sleep but then be impossible to wake up.
I really want one of those "natural" alarm clocks. The ones that sound pretty chimes and sounds of nature, gradually going from quiet, to loud. I'd much rather be awakened gradually, but no, sadly, I too have to put the alarm clock across the room so I'll get up and get on with my day.

i place my alarm clock in bed near my pillow so that i can easily reach for it in the morning. i don't want to wake up other people sleeping... =)
