Australia's national meal would be a BBQ. Thse can be very elaborate.Lamb chops, sausages, steak and rissoles are favourites. Fancier bbq food would be marinated chicken and shaslicks.
Very often sliced potato and onion is bbqed too.
A bbq can not be missed without salads. Often a large array of salads are prepared.. potato salad, coleslaw, rice salad, pasta salad, waldorf and garden salad are favourites.
We nearly always have garlic bread with our bbq's too.
So what is your countries favourite, or natyional meal?

Hi Jennybiance,
In Singapore there is no national meal, as our country is multi racial, we are us of eating everything from chinese, indian, malay and even western. We also enjoy italian like pizza and pasta, Korean kimchi and bulgogi, Japanese sushi and shasimi. What you want to eat you name it, we have all here.

In our country India, Rice Pulse and Wheet made food are are national food. It is eaten in all part of India. Somewhere rice/pulse is used in bulk and in some part wheat and pulse are used in bulk. Potato/onion are also the part of vegetables. It is mixed with other veg while cooking. Here we generally prefer fried vegetable instead of boiled. Only sick person prefer boiled veg.

I love going to Indian restuarants, but I don't know if the food is authentic, as yu describe. I like all the ingredients yiu mention.

It depends on who you ask, I guess. Beef seems to be the most desired meat, either burgers, or a nice steak. Grilled is great. If I say hamburger, I would say fries and a soft drink. Not well balanced or healthy. If I said steak, I would put it with a baked potato, green salad, cold drink, hot rolls or garlic bread, and pie for dessert. I could be completely off, though, so I hope other Americans will pitch in their thoughts.

Well, I like the sound of grilled steak with baked potato and a green salad. Not so sure aboput the hamburgers and fries.
I hope other people respond too, apart from being interesting, I hardly get any responses nowadays. I'm not sure why?

I love falafel!! It's one of my favorite "sandwich"-y types of foods. It's sooo good on a hot day, smothered with yogurt and cool cucumber salad. YUM! I think I'll make some this week (it is unseasonably warm here in TX)

My country, Indonesia, have no national meal, because every region has its own characteristic food ant taste. It makes us always found something new when you travel around my country. So why dont you try to spend your weekend in my country. And, it is for sure, save in here... hehe... :)

barbecue is cooking meat over coals. the word barbecue (BBQ) can be used to describe both the food produced and the means of cooking. most do it with coals on the bottom, a grill or spit over that, and you place the meat on the grill or spit. others first smoke the meat and then finish it on the grill for a flame-broiled taste. it is delicious!

They say ours in Britain is fish and chips, but apparently curry is taking over as most peoples favourite dish. Personally I like mashed potato and things like pies and meat with them that seems very British to me.

Hehe i was just browsing back after my post and noticed you also agreed to meats pies and chips ^_^. I dont think curry will ever be classed as a national food as it is an imported taste if you get me. It might be a favorite but its not english, English food is simple and delisisous with everything you need, meat, carbohydrates (Potatoes!) and veg :)

Here we call one of our national food are "sarmale". It's hashes meat with rice and some spices, along with egg and some other ingredients 9can't remember them all). This compost is then rolled in leafs of cabbage (pickled cabbage), then boiled in water mixted with tomato paste and other ingredients that I don't remember, so the water will become a delicious sos. It's served with "samtana" (it's like yoghurt, but more tasty).

You're making me hungry! Your national meal sounds exactly like what we have in the summer, along with corn on the cob. I've never heard of rissoles or shaslicks though. I grew up in Chicago, where we had great Chicago style hot dogs, pizza, and good chinese food. In the winter we have a lot of meat with mashed potato and gravy dinners. I also like to cook Mexican, Italian, and Stir-fry dinners. We like to do gulf shrimp cajun style and fried or broiled fish too.

I don't know what the national meal is per se, but the one most often identified with Filipino culture overseas is called "Adobo". It's a simple meal to make using common ingredients, making it perhaps the most accessible meal out there. It's either pork or chicken with onions or potatoes cooked in a salty-sour sauce based on vinegar and soy sauce.

In my home country Indonesia, rice will be needed on most of the meal. We can add vegetable, meats, soups and others. Commonly Indonesians always use chilli to eat. Since there are so many cultures differ from one area to another in Indonesia, food traditions will be different too.

My country national food meal will goes to Rice. We have a different types of rice in our meals. We also have one food called 'ketupat' and rendang for malay peoples- this is the most famous dish during our big day - eid days. The ketupat made from the stciky rice(glutenous) which cooked with the coconut milk in the young coconut leaf. and the rendang - chicken cooked with the spices and coconut flake (grated). Ketupat also nice to be eaten with the peanut gravy - which cooked with the spices.

u will need:
meat, (pork or chicken)
vinegar
soy sauce
pepper corn
laurel leaf
a bit of sugar to taste
simmer the meat with the ingredients till tender. u can have it dry cooked or with a little gravy sauce. try and cook a small amount first... thanks and happy filipino cooking!
