Are you afraid of Spiders?

Yucky Spiders - A revolting Redback Spider.

I am. I hate them. Even as a child I hated spiders. I think I got this from my Father, who doesn't like spiders at all too. We had a lot of spiders at Port Augusta, where I was brought up. The most dangerous are redbacks. They live in any dark place, such as under houses, in carports, garden sheds, under chairs and I guess you have heard of the redback under the toilet seat. Another spider I particulary dread are huntsman. They are quite harmless, but they are so larege and hairy and they can jump. Wolf spiders unnerve me too, as the have large fangs and carry their babies on their backs. I can kill little spiders with lots of spray, but I have to get my husband to kill any remotely big spider. My daughter thinks my fear is funny. So what experiences do you have with spiders?

Fortunately for me, we don't have to worry about poisonous spiders in the area we live in. I am the spider killer in my house. My daughter has a phobia regarding spiders and insects. She freaks out! I just walk over and whack them with a shoe or whatever I have handy.

I have many episodes on National Geography about spiders. At some places it is very dangerous. Even people can die. But in our India it is not so horrible. Or we can say not pisonous. In foreign countries it is seen that there are few spiders which are pisonous and harm the people, have to rush to hospital. I use spray for killing the spiders.

Yes I am. I was bitten by a brown recluse spider a few years ago and still have large round deep scar on my leg as a result. I didn't realize I had been bitten until I had the red angry looking area on my leg and as the skin was not broken I was not too worried. Eventually I went to the doctor who sent me to another doctor and recognized what it was and was I shocked to find that under the skin my flesh was getting eaten away. Thank goodness I received immediate treatment which involved, Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Therapy twice a day but it took a long time to heal.

How yucky! I think I heard of brown recluse spiders. I was bitten once by a unnamed species in the Gawler Ranges. They are very tiny spiders that get in your washing. It causes a nasty sore, and I needed antibiotics for it. Not as nasty as yours though.

no i'm not afraid of spiders, only red backs. I haven't seen a red back in a few years. Sometimes i even pick up daddy long legs and carry them outside, when someone wants it out of the house. I also NEVER kill Huntsmen spiders. They are really good at eating cockroaches and yucky insects like that in the house. Something that you should remember is that they're more scared of you than you are of them, I mean, look at the size of us compared to them! They won't attack unless they feel threatened.

You make a good point, that spiders can be quite helpful in eating vermin and insects. And I guess they are more afraid of us!

Spiders are the worst for me too! They can make me jump up faster than anything else! That is what hubby if for! I've awakened him during the night to come get a spider before. He just sighs at me. LOL! They give me the creeps and they make my skin crawl which makes me think they are crawling on me! The only other thing that grosses me out are roaches and that goodness I've never had them! We had some really big water bugs last year that looked like huge roaches. I don't know why or how they wandered into the house, but we had 4 or 5 of them wandering the house for about a month before we got rid of them all! YUCK! I was really antsy until we got them all!

I am sitting here typing feeling like there are things crawling all over me. I don't like spiders. I hate there webs. When you walk through one cause you didn't see it and then you have to worry about if the spider was still in it. yuck. I don't know if there are any poisious spiders where we live but I don't like the look of any of them.

What a terrible man your step father was. I hate webs also, although the Orb spider spins a very pretty web.

I don't really know anyone who likes nasty spiders!! I sure don't. My step dad put black widows in my dresser drawers when I was gone for a summer vacation(he's in prison now) and as soon as I came home he told me to unpack and put my clothes in the drawers......... needless to say I lost it and he laughed. That was about 30 years ago and to this day I don't even like to see them on t.v. or in a book.

I can't say for sure if I'm afraid of spiders of not. Sure, they're not exactly a lovable creatures. And definitely not something that I will dared to touch. I once have a big black spider crawling on the family room. I didn't know how it got in there. I simply grabbed my slipper and gave it 5 smacks. Down it goes to the floor. :)

Spiders don't bother me. My general concensus is if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Pretty simple lol. Mom hates them and my sister is deathly afraid of them. She just got her own place and is moving in there next Thursday so, I guess she's going to have to learn that when she sees one in the bath tub, she'll have no choice but to turn the tap on herself to wash it down the plughole lol. My ex's brother was also deathly afraid of them too. It's the funniest thing to see a 21 year old jump up onto the nearest surface when a spider runs across the floor, and to hear him squeal like a little girl. it's a reaction that you don't expect from a 6ft tall guy lol.

I am terrified of spiders! I was bitten as a young child and had a horrible allergic reaction so I tend to freak out when one comes into the house or drops down from the ceiling to say "hello!" My cat, on the other hand, loves them! My husband came home last summer and found him taunting one of the biggest spiders I've ever seen come into our house. I couldn't sleep that night wondering how or where that spider got in!

One of my kitten's first "kills" was a huntsman spider. She brought it inside with it still in her mouth. I had to get it out. It freaked me out!

I used to like spiders until I got bit by them a couple of times. They are like vampires, I'll wake up and see one hanging from my ceiling over my head trying to lower itself down to get me in my sleep.

I DO! dang those critters. i would really go into a bit of panic whenever i saw one most especially those big ones. i gues i have arachnophobia. i had this experience way back when i was about 8 or 10, as i was rushing to take a poo i did not notice that a big one was behind the door so when i sit on the poo chair, dang there it was. it really scares the hell of me. i was shouting on top of my lungs for my mom, while crying, who was really having trouble too how to rescue me since i locked the door. eventually she had to call a guy neighbor & break the door. i never or could never open that door with that thing right smack at the center of the door. looking back that now, cant help but smirk on myself. but to this day on - though i dont cry or shout for my mom anymore - they still give me a scare, but im man enough now to throw my sandals on it ^^
