Cheater on mylot..........they are missing the point!!!

My initial attraction to mylot was the ability to discuss issues and share OPINIONS and THOUGHTS about our life experience with people from all over the world. So when I had a mylotter respond to an old post of my mine this morning(the post is "Where do you live -in the city or the country?") the length and content of their response made me a little suspicious. First of all, I did not get an answer to my question but a very lengthy "report" on India. After doing some research I realized that this person is answering the same question(where do you live?) 90% of the time from other mylotter's posts and is reposting the same lengthy, obviously cut an pasted response about their country of India over and over again!!! Sometimes the report is abbreviated but many times they have repasted the same "report" on India over and over!! They have even received several best responses with the same lengthy obviously plagarized version of the same answer!! Unbeleivable!! The whole lack of originality and inability to answer a question in their own voice makes me upset because 1. They in essence cutting corners and cheating mylot 2. They are not speaking in their own voice and allowing people to get to know them..they are merely reposting the same info..over and over..in fact they will never get to know anyone or enjoy the expererience of sharing ideas with others!! I will bring this to the attention of mylot. Has anyone else seen this happen before? What action did you or mylot take?

I went to your discussion and checked. He has copied his post from wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India. I also reported him for plagerism. As a writer I take personal offense to anyone that steals another writing/words without giving them credit for the original publication. It is wrong, and shouldn't be tolerated in any way. I have had to report a few this morning that I have seen. I don't go looking for them, I just notice them. I hate reporting, but it is the right thing to do in this case. These users need to get that what they are doing is an actual crime and that if the original author wanted to, they could sue them for use of the content without proper siting of the source. I have seen myLot delete posts, earnings, and ban users for this behavior in the past. They can get in trouble if they don't. We all need to do our part to make myLot admin aware of these cheaters. It will make myLot a better community in the end. Thanks for bringing this one to our attention.

mmmmmmmmmm maybe it a question of name and shame, we all seem to be very politically correct in carefully sparing individuals their blushes.....trying ever so hard to not give offence,,,,but I believe in calling a spade a spade!! when someone is blatantly abusing the status quo, and lets face it this site is all about the quality in writing, comments and answers, not the ability to cut and paste! further more he or she is guilty of the abuse of copyright, a second offense, and in my eyes a greater offence. How about we each post a list of offenders pertinent to our own domains. The perpetrators will all have the right to defend themselves in open court so to speak, and it will bring them to the attention of the 'authorities on this site, and everyone else for that matter. We have only to invoke the email notification of our friends lists, and I believe it will stop this abuse very quickly!!! Sentences can be further endorsed by negative rating, and flogging...sorry flagging!!!! I wish you well, in your endeavours ....excellent research, well done!!!

I have actually seen the post you are talking about on a number of different occassions. Hopefully mylot will see it also and remove the posts. Copy/pasting like this just makes a mockery of the whole site and has to be stopped.

Yes me too and have reported and gave a minus rating at the same time. Those kind of people will soon be found out and I cannot understand the mentality and thinking of those kind of people.

If you notice a person just copying his own posts or copying other peoples posts, REPORT him. He is just using this to earn money and not to be part of a community. My wife and I love Mylot. It has given us a source to rant and rave, praise, share and communicate with people with a like mind on subjects that interest us. It is sad how shallow some people are. You can see by a lot of the subjects that they are just trying to get responses so they can earn money. My lot has strict rules and these people are being cuaght.

I recently had a person who responded to one of my posts with the exact words that I had listed in my discussion to start with. He/she had copied and pasted it word for word right down to the last couple of words, they changed. I reported them. I don't know what action mylot has taken, they didn't inform me of anything.

I have not yet experienced this craziness. I will plan on reporting to mylot anyone who I find guilty of cuttng and pasting copied material that is not their own. You can tell if someone's response is genuine normally, but I am sure that there will be responses in which you won't immediately know whether they are or not.

I don't get on here very much now so I haven't noticed that, but for sure you should report that to mylot. even if it's the same question they shouldn't just copy and paste or respond one line only. Yes you should bring this to mylot's attention. they will do something but we can't see it from here that's all

I feel that anyone who posts the question, "Where do you live?" has not taken the time to think up a very good question. If someone responds with a lengthy report on India, I would consider that an excellent answer. After all, the point of myLot is to discuss, isn't it. If people continue asking, "Where do you live?" why not continue answering them with a report about the area you live in. Would this not be a true answer? If the answer is his own, and he has more than 500 responses, he has the cut and paste power given him by myLot, and, supposedly, he is giving a true answer to a different person each time he responds. Maybe he truly wants to share the good points about his country with fellow readers.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. Just to clarify my question was "Where do you live in the country or city-what do you like about it? the 500 word answer I received from this mylotter was a report on his country of India...not an answer to my question at all. I have a problem with someone answering a question with the same material over and over ...mainly because it is against the rules and it undermines the efforts of everyone here who follows the rules and gets paid for their own genuine answers..not plagarized copy. Now if I had asked " Where do you live? like others have asked on this forum and in your opinion "is not a good question" I suppose that the 500 word response or report on the culture, geography, religions and other numerous details of life in India may have been a somewhat overstated but appropriate answer to THAT question .. but you would have to ask the mylotters that asked that question.

I think the responder looks for only questions where he can give that ,answer.By the way I think you did a lot of research here to find all details about that person. You can give a negative rating.

I've noticed that one last week also! It is definitely cheating mylot for money and it is clearly spamming from a so called penny collector. I have reported the person and I hope that the people in the mylot 'office' take some action against the offender because this is not on!

Unfortunately there will always be someone who spoils things for everyone else, a lot of us put a lot of time into this and some people will lose pionts when this person is found out, it is sad that there always has to be a spoiler...

Interesting...I'm still a newbie to myLot so I don't think I've came across that 'india' post yet but I think you have good point there. People should respond and post accordingly to the rules that are set on mylot. If those users break those rules I suppose they should receive some sort of a penalty or warning. But what would be an even more better idea would probably to ask the moderators (I'm assuming that myLot HAS moderators) to put in a little more effort in watching over what is taking place on myLot. I understand that mylot is a very large site and it is impossible to look over every single post that is made - but maybe they should keep their eyes sharp on any suspicious users that may be 'cheating'. myLot should look over things like these to make it fair for each and every user.

I think the mylot police do a great job in sorting out cheaters like this quickly. It seems that once you report it they look into it within the next 24 hours and remove their conversations. I find it disappointing that people think we are stupid and that they can get away with it. The "mylot cheater" seems to be breeding and there are more and more instances of this appearing than it did a month or 2 ago. It comes down to how low people will go in an attempt to make a few dollars because it's free. If mylot wasn't a site that paid you money then we wouldn't have this problem at all!! It's only because people want to make money for free without doing anything

It really irritates me when people do that. Or when people respond to something with a very short sentence like, "That's a good story", or "I agree"; something along those lines. Even if mylot didn't pay for your responses and discussions, I would still want to be a member because it's interesting and fun to share and hear opinions. I don't see how people can be members for the sole reason of money, it's not like you get a real hefty profit from this. gr..irritating.

Hi, I just want to say that I have just started with mylot and I read this post. Personally, I did start with the one sentence post. I did so, because I was not sure what it was all about. As the past couple of days have gone on, I am getting used to doing this. Please try to see what the other poster is doing before getting irritated over short responses. They may be new. As far as the other guy who is posting a post that he copied from another source...well that is just wrong, plain and simple. As others have posted, they are in it for the 2.5 cents per post. Eventually, they will get theirs. What goes around comes around. I would also like to add that my limited experience with this site has brought a new education to me. I am thoroughly enjoying this site and all of the interesting tid bits it has to offer. Have a wonderful day!

I haven't seen this myself but I totally agree that the person doing this is missing the point of mylot entirely. It must be very boring cutting and pasting the same text over and over whereas it's good fun to actually respond to each question with an answer that reveals your personality and might spark a conversation.

Not only are they missing the point, they also appear to be breaking copyright laws. I found the post you are talking about and did a simple search. The post about india is a compilation of paragraphs plaguerised from a number of different websites. The bulk of it is word-for-word the same as the entry on wikipedia for India and there are other bits copied from travel company websites.

Isn't that unbelevable? It is so easy to find the source of their information. It is a blatant disregard for the rules here at mylot.

I really think that is sooo... underhanded. Only lazy people will do that who may have no idea of their own. It's really an insult to their God-given intelligence if they have any. I would not mind receiving any response from somebody who is not good in English but is trying very hard to express himself/herself that I could really get the idea behind such responses. Now I know why I get some responses that is sooo off from the topic being discussed. Those people are just out to make money and doesn't care for quality of any discussion at all. I just hope they get booted out of here but as it is..this is a free world so we have to bear with them. Like diseases and viruses, they are part of the reality in this world that we have to bear with and do the best that we can do to avoid.

i agree. these types of users are very lazy and are obviously here trying to make money but i doubt they will get very far friend-wise and money-wise. the best you can do is to report them as '-' or abuse '!' if you believe they are being abusive. a similar thing has happened to me but in my ase it was a lot worse... a user had responded to one of my discussions with dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd and that is ALL they wrote. they obviously werent trying and were just trying to get their number of posts up to earn money however i doubt this worked. plus how could they make any friends with a response like that ? i reported them but i dont think mylot has taken any action yet.. i guess its not as 'abusive' as other reports have been but still.. its definitely rude and lazy. thanks for the great discussion ! keep up the good work ! =)

They should have a some kind of software that can detect this. There are days I work hard on Mylot and every word is mine and I make next to nothing. Then there are days I do not post much and I get much more. Then you see people who have the cut and paste ability at the 500 mark and that is all they do...and they are rewarded for it. They need to improve their system.

i guess you're right. i have noticed that before, the same answer were posted repeatedly. The thoughts were not almost there, maybe they're doing that just to earn points and not to be friendly with the community. i have ignore that issue cause i don't want to waste my time with them, i would rather with other members who are really sincere in the discussions and share different point of views in life.

Hello mckenziemom, I've only been on myLot for 4 days so I've missed it. I have noticed that people will put ok to answer I would say just to answer but when your question was what would you....the answer can never be "ok". I do think that there will always be someone trying to make an extra cent without working for it.Seems to me that they spend more time scamming a buck then it would have taken to earn it in athe first place. If I see this I will give the poster a _. Thanks for giving us something to think about.

I, personally, have not had this happen (though I am new to MyLot) but my best guess is that they really don't understand the language that well and it may not actually be "plagiarized" material, but that they just keep repeating themselves because they are poor communicators. I have seen some misunderstandings on other websites, however. And I attribute it to the fact that they really do believe that they are answering the question at hand, but they just don't know how to put it in the best possible terms.
