First Signs of Spring...

United States

I can't believe it. I went out to my backyard this afternoon and I found several of my daffodil plants were bloomed. Ahhhh spring! It is my favorite season. What are the first signs of spring that get you going? Is it your favorite season too?

It's warmed up a little out here, but nothing blooming for me yet. It's still chilly, I forgot where are you from? Good luck with those daffodils. It's nice to see spring finally come around eh? I plan on planting a few things with my daughters.

I am in Southern Oregon. It was snowing here last week, lol. But we have had some nice days since the weekend, so things are perking up. It is nice. What are you and your daughters planning on planting? Thank you for your reply.

i'm happy to see that you are experiencing some signs of spring! my favorite season or seasons are summer and fall. spring is nice because you finally get a warm breeze, and some green grass. but, we get so much rain here, and it is muddy and messy,..and it feels like spring is just teasing you all along. summer is so wanted by the time spring is over, its hard to enjoy the quickness of it. and then fall, when you can wear a sweatshirt, and be outside without being too hot or too cold-my favorite time.

Thanks for yoru response. I like your idea that spring is just a tease for the main event of summer.

I love the sight of the snow melting and the water running down the road!!! I love to go driving down the road and "hit" those water spots and just make a big splash!!! Spring is my favorite time - I then know that winter is gone for a few months (LOL) and everything turns green and beautiful again.

I hear ya. We used to call that "break-up", when I was a kid and lived in Alaska. It lasted almost as long as summer, lol. I love the green and bright colors of spring too. Thank you for your response.

The first sign of spring for us is that it all of a sudden seems to be light longer. It seems that it was dark by dinnertime every night, and now it's light out until about 6:30pm. Once we turn the clocks ahead this weekend, it will really be noticeable. I love when it is light out longer; I just feel more energized after work. We don't have any signs of spring in our yards or gardens yet here in western NY state, but of course we still have a lot of snow on the lawns yet. I love spring days, but it tends to be a rainy, cool season here. My favorite season is summer, followed by fall. We always have nice fall seasons here, and it's usually nice out through mid-October. I'm getting anxious for some warmer days to be able to get out and walk now.

I love it when daylight savings time comes too. I really enjoy being outside in the evenings, whether it is doing yardwork or just relaxing. You have had some rough weather there in NY. Hope you fared well. Thank you for your reply.

Spring Is my favorite season also , I love hearing the birds every morning and evening . I noticed the same thing awhile ago , back in December just before Christmas . I went out in the back yard and there were buds on the trees , this is December not April I thought . Then a couple weeks later I saw it the news and I guess this is happening all over , The seasons being mixed up . Anyways they were saying that because of this the trees and the crops this year will most likely be small . That this is due to global warming .

Interesting. We have had a pretty normal winter here in the NW, it's been wet and snowy in the mountains. Things are pretty much on schedule. So are your birds chirpin'? Global warming is a huge issue, I know that alot of rural areas crops are being affected. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

Yes isn't is awesome. Our daffodils started blooming 2 weeks ago, now I am seeing my Hyacinth's begin to bloom. I lOVE spring and can't wait for the tulips to come up. Then all my pansies will die off and they are so beautiful right now. I guess I can't have both though.

I love autumn (fall) though officially it's autumn now in Australia yet it's so hot today it feels like summer. The advantage is that it will almost certainly cool down at night so we can sleep. Enjoy your spring!

That through me for a loop, lol. Even though I know it is getting ready to be fall in some places, it didn't register until your post. You've had quite the heat wave. Thank you very much. Enjoy your fall. Thanks for posting as well.

Yes, our seasons are opposite to the northern hemisphere. So it can be quite hot at Christmas time so many people have chicken, seafood and salads as opposed to the traditional roast turkey and trimmings :)

Spring is my second favorite season with my favorite being fall. Spring is great, but it makes me realize that the stifling hot, humid summer months are close. Those months I detest! My dafodills are about to open too! I have buds on my ornametal peach tree. It is staying daylight later in the evenings. There are birds chirping when I wake up in the mornings and I can see them in the trees during the day! Yup, its Spring!

I don't know. I love spring for the flowers and pretty nice weather. But I love fall (when it finally comes) for the break in the horrible heat of Texas. I even like winter, because winter in Texas is really very nice most of the time. Or as we say down here, we have 3 days of winter and then its spring! 3 more days and spring again! It was actually once 21 days below freezing and I thought that was the most horrible 3 weeks of my life (kidding.) But I didn't live in a very nice house, it was a pier & beam house so it had the cold air under it as well as around it. Not very nice.

I love springtime! All the newness of life, the birds singing, the moderate temperatures, the flowers blooming, kids playing outside. I just can't pick any one thing I guess. The whole picture of Spring just attacks all my senses at once. Thank you for asking, just sitting here typing it makes me feel it all over again and it's night time! :)

We had our first day of full spring feeling Saturday. It was over 60 degrees out and it was just beauitful. A couple three weeks ago or so we had a thousand (well maybe not a thousand lol) robins out in our yard, that is always the sure sign that spring is really here. I love springtime!!!

My dafadils are up and the tulips are too but we are still having snow. It is so cold outside. I am so sick of the cold. I just want the temperatures to reach 80 for a few days so I can get warm. LOL

Well lets see....the grass is starting to grow again and the weather has been really mild even at night.I love sleeping with the windows open.Just seeing everything coming back to live.....like the trees across the street are starting to go into full bloom and my rose bush has new leaves. The one thing I like most about spring is the smell of the air in the morning....I just can't describe how different it is from any other season. It makes me feel so full of live and like I can acomplish anything.Spring is my favorite season.....it's like waking up from a long deep sleep.

I hear ya. I also agree about the smell of an early spring morning. There is something so envigorating about it. The possibilities are endless. I've been in hybernation mode myself this past winter, and it's time to wake up. Thanks for the response. I appreciate it.

My bulbs are blooming but now that my baby pear trees are in bud, I know that spring has arrived. The activity of local birds is also a hint. I love seeing them bathing in puddles when I am walking in the morning. It's finally warm enough for them to enjoy it.

Ahhh, that's neat. We have a local Pear Blossom Parade and weekend here. It is our locales celebration of spring. So far they aren't blooming, but I know it isn't far off. I believe the Pear Blossom Festival is scheduled for April 14th this year. It seems like it should be earlier though, lol. Thank you for sharing.
