I just received a newsletter from Reader's Digest with all kinds of tips on how to live frugally. I know how many of us work hard on here for a little bit of money, so I thought I would pass this link on so that everyone can save some money. http://www.rd.com/content/openContent.do?contentId=29607&trkid=frugality_mar_07 One of them I thought was great....a way to get out of a cell phone contract without having to pay the fee - find someone to take over your cell phone contract on a website.

The phone one caught my eye, as well as checking on gas prices, the problem with that is you can drive an extra block and in that time the prices have gone up again.

I think we should all take advantage of any way we can find to save a little money. Thanks for sharing the link with us. I'm sure we will all be able to find something we can use there, or that we can pass on to someone else we know.

Thanks for this. I've read it and used a lot of info in it myself. Here's a great site for cleaning, cooking, and all sorts of other hints. One of the best sites I go to a lot. Helped my daughter with her wedding gown stain through this site. Enjoy it. Thanks again. http://www.heloise.com/ HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

I love the one it mentions about long distance phone calls. We signed up for the Skype it is free long distance calling using your internet. It is so great because now the kids can talk to their grandparents and ramble on and on because I am not paying a high bill. It is also great for anyone making international calls as it is free.

I changed last year to broadband phone, I tried skype and gizmo last year, my computer had no problem but several other people's had a bad echo. I went to broadband phone - my bill is 25 a month plus taxes, unlimited local and long distance includes Canada, parts of Europe too.

Thanks-- this just reminded me how much and why I love readers digest! I used to read all the time as a kid- My parents subscribed- I haven't found it cheap enough yet to subscribe myself.. They should have put something in this article about getting the Readers digest cheaper- LOL No really it was a great article. I like the one about buying groceries a couple times a week- This does add up-- and I find myself buying more than what I go in for. I have never ordered online- Not sure if I would- I'm a huge couponer-- Don't know if you can use coupons online. Great article though!

I am hesitant about ordering online as well, there is something about looking at the expiration date on the meats and breads and things that I like to do. The other day I was at Sam's and the expiration date on the milk varied by as much as a week and the meat as much at 4 days...guess which ones I pick? But I had a friend, she did daycare and had 3 little ones under the age of 5. She would call in an order and was thrilled when it arrived a few hours later and someone carried it into the kitchen for her. It was worth the $10 delivery fee.

Wow! Thanks for the great link, I consider myself frugal and am always looking for ways to save money. These days you have to pay so much for the things you need (lights, water, heat) that you have to save a penny whenever you can, I think this article will be very helpful.

if you really want to be frugal don't have a phone write letters maybe its really possible to live well on VERY little money I used to earn $110 a week and was very happy. I still don't know how I managed that.

How long ago did you live on $110 a week. I did at one time too, but that was probably over 30 years ago. A phone is almost a necessity now a days, I would hate to have to write a letter to 911 when my house was burning down. Any many job applications require a phone number.

Yes, I have always considered RD good reading, great bathroom material, my son who is learning disabled would at least pick up RD in the bathroom to read the jokes. This for him was the equivalent of reading war and peace.

Thanks for the link. I've bookmarked it so I can look at it again later too. Money just doesn't seem to be stretching as far as it used to. I think every time I walk into the grocery store, prices have gone up again. I don't usually buy expensive things either. I usually get the store brand. Some things I do buy the name brand like on coffee because we really don't like the taste of the off brands. That's a good idea on the cell phone contract. It's the pits to be locked into a cell phone contract you don't want!

Yes, I do a lot of generic. I am a coffee snob and only do Gevalia, I think that is my splurge. But I figure what I spend in a month is still cheaper then buying a cup of coffee a week at a place like starbucks ( whose coffee I think is awful).

That sounds like a good idea. I wonder if you would not be obligated at all though. WOuld be kind of scary to not know the person from Adam but I know how expensive it is to get out of those contracts. Sometimes I know they will let you get out of them for a period of time if you are moving out of that cell phone area.

I think that the carrier would have to know and authorize the switch...but if I read it in RD I assume it is reliable.
