How do I go about starting a mission for orphan and abused children in India?

I am retired from the corporate world and would like to start a mission to help abandoned and abused children in India. I have visited India and I know the problems associated with this challenge given the fact that I have very little start-up capital of my own and will need to raise funds. Is this a feasible venture?

First you have to aks yourself the question "why you want to do this?" If it is for the benefit of the children only then go ahead. If it is for you to feel better, i rather suggest to not start up something new but support existing mission. They welcome any help and assistance.
I have worked the last 15 years in this field in Africa and Asia. If you really interested in starting something on your own, i might be able to give you a few pointers.

Hello,
This venture is definitely for the children. My life to date has been about me and I want to change that equation. I am tired of me and I really want to help children and give some of them a chance to realise some dreams in this drab and colourless world. Any help you can offer will be deeply appreciated.

If you like, then mail me to myLot Mail. Best might be if you provide an alternative eMail address. I can get you in turn information and contacts that might be helpful to you.
As long as I can contact you outside of myLot and I don't have to post details here publicly (especially those that are not mine) I have no problem to help you in your quest.

I am not really sure but I think you could approach one of the Church organisations who might be able to help you plus I think you would also need permission from the Indian Government. It would be a major task and you would need to be sure that you had ongoing funds to continue what you start.
The other alternative is that you could 'join forces' with an existing mission and give them what you can personally as well as what you can get through fund raising. That would reduce the amount of money, help those already being helped plus more children could be helped. You could also give your time when you are in the country and I am sure that it would be appreciated. Good luck. :)

Dear Ossie,
Thank you so much for your interest and helpful comments. You are probably correct about joing forces with an existing organisation in order to maximise fund-raising resources and help more children.
I will follow your advice and start by liaising with the Indian High Commission here.
Godbless & Thanks once more!

I'm touching...May my Lord (not myLot) will always be with you. Don't worry about the money. If your mission from God and He has sent you, He will provide it. God Bless You.

I have worked for some charitable institutions in India . I would say that u would have to be more specific like do u want to deal with only abondoned and abused children or with any kind of children problem. Abondoning Girl child is becoming a big problem in India specially in the northern region like Punjab. some organisations are already working with this issue. You could tie up with them . In India we lack man power or people who can think of a problem with a different view point. U can also help by sending man power to India who would train people here as to how to deal with these kind of problem . And lastly I would advice you to be careful in choosing the organisation u would tie up with because not all organisations are real
