It's hard to even consider a smaller home, isn't it. Our highest bill this summer was close to $500. I was seriously considering a move. We got through though.

Where do you live? I am in Texas and houses here are still at a high. I hear they are coming down all over, though. Of course, if you sell your house, even for what you paid for it (not that you should) you would have the equity that you have built up to help pay for a smaller or less expensive place.

I am so glad you were able to get through. yeah it is really hard to consider a smaller home. Infact i am thinking about selling my house and moving into an apartment! But unfortunatly the market value for houses around me is dropping at an alarming rate. So even if i sell my house to break even with the bank, i still owe money and will have nothing to get an partment with. I am not sure what to do sometimes.

I think that is terrific!! How do you do it? Trees all around that provide shade, higher a/c settings? I would love to know how you manage it.

We just built our house it is a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom house 2800 sq. feet we put a reverse heat pump in the air conditioner. It saves energy, plus we put house wrap under the siding we insulated really good, and we put a barrier wrap between the insulation and the drywall. We really did our research. If you have an old house there are many ways to lower your energy bill. Talk to your electrical company/gas company. They have many ideas.

That's not bad. Do you have a single or two story home?

Don't you love a fireplace in the winter! it is my favorite. Of course, here in Texas we don't get much opportunity to use ours, but I make it work! That is the perfect feel of a nice winter day, to me. Thanks for posting

In the summer my electric bill is fairly low - about $100, sometimes even less. But in the winter it can go up to $400 or $500 because we have electric heat.

That is such a dramatic difference. Most people's go down considerably in the winter months. I sure am grateful for gas heat! Thanks for your post.

Our natural gas is also billed on the electric bill. I'm not sure what it's going to be at our new house but in our old place, our heating cost was as much as $400/month.
