There are a few stores in our area that go to flea markets and estate sales to attain furniture items. They then rehab them and sell them in their stores. I go a few times a year and pick up interesting pieces for good prices...mostly chairs, desks, lamps, or tables. I check them thoroughly beforehand.

YUp we do.. my mom is a second hand fanatic, and sometimes it really gets on my nerves because most of the stuffs that she buys are yes= CHEAP but are also near its destruction...
I think buying second hand stuff are kind of a waste of money- unless you know who the previous owner was of the thing that you bought, and you are sure that the previous owner did a good job taking care of that thing.
I think second hand or used stuffs should just be sold if its still usable or if its still in working condition- cuz if not that would be like cheating a customer or a buyer...

most of my items in my house are secondhand.. Just because it was used by someone else doesn't make it old were broken. Why pay new prices when old stuff will do. I have sold some of my stuff on eBay and through the newspaper. I've always had good luck with used items. My computer is 11 years old, and I will be replacing it next month with another use computer.

I love to shop on ebay, amazon for used stuff, at yard sales and thrift stores. I think second hand stuff in GOOD condition is a wonderful way to update your collections and yet not pay the full price.
My favorite from books, to cds, to dvds is amazon.com Sometimes you get the best deals on there. I also weigh the costs compared to new. Say its used, but its costs me $3.00 for the dvd and $2.49 to ship it. A total of $5.49. But I am at the store and I see the SAME dvd for say $5.50 I would deal with the extra tax to get it right then. So I outweigh both. I try to not buy all cheap stuff but sometimes I cant resist a good bargain.
I miss our old area we had several great thrift stores I still long to go back to. My favorite was one on Lincoln and I used to buy tons of beanie babies from there when I was still trying to get ALL the beanis (thus I have lowered it to just cute ones again causae I had WAY too many and sold a huge amount at a yard sale for like $2.00 each!)
Like I said. More power to the second used. I think sometimes its the only way to go with certain kinda stuff! :))

I would not only buy and sell second hand stuff, but I would use it if it was something I needed. Nowdays, prices are so high that it seems really wasteful to discard something just because it is too small for our kids, or because we are tired of it, as long as it is still in good condition.

I LOVE second hand things, except I call them antiques.
I have lots of vinyl records from the 60's.
I also have some amazing books from the late 1800's. I opened one book from 1895 and this amazing aroma of pipe smoke came out. I could imagine someone over 100 years ago, sitting in his study in front of a fireplace, smoking his pipe and reading the book. Wow! I bought it and every time I open the book it takes me back to that image. The aroma has been seared into the pages.....
I have much art work that I have found in antique shops and love it.
My favorite is a print of Marilyn Monroe. She is on a beach wearing a big comfortable looking sweater, sweat pants and an amazing smile.
The print is called "warm-up" and is from 1962.

I don't think I have any second hand stuff except some furniture I acquired when my daughter was selling her house. If I had good stuff ot get rid of, then I usually try to sell it, either on an auction site or I put an add in the local shops. My daughter has just set up a website where I can list stuff that I no longer want so I put a few things on her site just to give it a bit of support.

I don't have a problem with buying second hand stuff at all. Some people are very picky about their furniture and will buy new stuff before their old stuff is even worn! Why not take advantage of that and get some use out of it?
When we first got married, we bought a lot of used furniture because we could not afford new furniture. We were married four years before we bought our first living room set that was brand new!

I have quite a bit of second hand items here at home. I find that sometimes it's better to go with a second hand item than to buy brand new. I remember when me and my other half were living in an apartment on our own when we had first starting going out.. And how.. We couldn't afford brand new furniture and when I moved in there with my other half he had absolutely no furniture whatsoever. After about a month of sitting on an uncomfortable floor, I figured it was time that my other half get some furniture because we could not go on sitting on the floor. At least in my case I had enough of sitting on a hard floor, it became rather uncomfortable after a while..
When I decided that we were going to go get some furniture I figured one of the first places we would look at was Value Village and see if they had anything that we could use. We got on the bus and took a trip up there on a Saturday afternoon. Upon looking around the store we saw a few different couches we were considering putting in our apartment. We also looked at a few house ware items as we kept looking around.
We eventually found the couch we ended up getting and I'll tell you this, it was super comfortable to sit and lay on. Both me and my other half tested the couch out while we were there in the store and it impressed both of us. The only thing that was kind of annoying was the color of the couch. We ended up covering the majority of the couch when we got it home with a chocolate brown throw/blanket. The minute we covered the couch with the brown throw it made it look so much better. We ended up purchasing chocolate brown pillows & red pillows for the couch shortly after that which made it look even more classier. We ended up getting so many compliments afterwards because of this!
I know that after we had purchased this couch.. I personally thought it was by far the best second hand purchase we have made all along. I don't think we could have found a better deal if we had gone to another thrift store in this city. I was so glad when we found this couch because we had looked for so long it was only a matter of time before something like this came along to help us out.
We were so happy with the first trip and the first couch we had we began to look again for another couch. We ended up finding a second couch that fit what else we wanted to do with the apartment. So far it was two successful trips to Value Village and both times we found couches that really fit in with how we were trying to decorate the apartment. We we're really impressed with the condition of the couches as well because they only had a couple snag spots here and there. There were no stains or gross areas on the upholstery which made us even happier.
We also ended up finding a lot of framed pictures to put on our walls as well. It really helped to make the apartment look even better by hanging these pictures on our walls. We ended up getting some really adorable pictures to hang on our wall of kitties for only $2.00 in total. They we're also in pretty great condition as well which was quite impressive in my opinion! As I had never found anything like that in such great condition until me & my other half had purchased these framed pictures..
In conclusion, I think it is very beneficial to shop at a second hand store because you may be overlooking a place that could hold some very unique and treasured items. As well, you can also find the certain household furnishings you are looking for there. They tend to have a pretty good variety of items and it's my belief that if you look closely enough, you'll find exactly what you're looking for in these shops instead of going to stores that charge an arm & a leg for couches that sometimes.. Aren't half as comfortable as the ones you can purchase from a second hand store! . .
Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

I always believe in buying the first hand items. I dont think I am ever happy using a used item. But mnay of my friends dont mind buying a second hand item. Rather they woudl buy only second hand materials. It is purely personal choice, I beleive.

why shouldn't people buy and sell second hand things? you can get some great things doing that it also saves things going into a bin an into a land fill site that don't need to go in there so think how fast land fills would fill up if people didn't buy and sell second hand stuff.
in spain i worked for a second hand furniture shop and they were always packed and we were never not doing a delivery.

Alot of my stuff is second hand as I am on a tight budget. I see nothing wrong with it at all. In fact I belong to a group called freecycle. It is great as people who are wanting to get rid of things post them on there and no money is exchanged. It really is a great way of getting rid of things you no longer need without them going to waste.

I do not have any second hand things in my house currently but i had one a year ago. It was motor bike which i thought was the worst decision i have taken to purchase it. Later i have had many problems with it as time went and finally i had sold it off..

Buying second hand stuff is good! but not for everybody, good if you are a student. If you are a student, just move to a new place, limited budget then go and buy second hand stuff. Go to garage sales even better, here in my place with NZ$300 you can buy bed, cuttelery, desks etc basically you can start a living!
Selling second hand stuff also even better, for 3 reasons: (1) you will help somebody who in need, (2) good for environment, it is some kind of recycling, and (3) you will make some money out of unwanted stuff.

Almost everything in my home is second hand, actually all of my furniture except my rocking chair is second hand. I got my couch, coffee table, dining room table, and chairs all from Goodwill and my entertainment center from a friend. It's all really nice stuff, except the couch, but we put a couch cover over it and you would never know it was a disgusting shade of brown.
I think second hand stuff is great. If it weren't for consignment shops, then my husband and I would have a lot less furniture.

in our place, it has become some kind of a fad to buy second hand items especially items from abroad...you could get the genuine stuff for less. But of course, you have to make sure that they very clean before using them, even to the point of disinfecting them, especially clothes.
