Hi friends,
I do invest in both but i personally feel real estate is a better and safe investment coz the value of ur property gets appreciated with time and u can always lease ur property where as in share market risk is high? wat do you think? do u have any other investment option?

I have lost money in the share/stock market. I've never lost money on land! It takes more money to invest in land and sometimes you might have to wait longer for the value to increase, but I think it is safer.
Another thing I have invested in is gold coins. When the market is down, their value goes up. I also like the idea that gold or silver will always be good if the paper money fails.

I ultimately believe in Real Estate hands down over any other investment that the beginning investor can do. Anyone can buy a property, live in until it no longer suites their needs then go buy another and rent out the first one.
Ever since 1929, US Real Estate has never gone lower than it's previous low (which please keep in the mind the crash of 1929 was caused by the STOCK MARKET). Therefore it continues to rise no matter where you are in the US.
In regards to other options, try to think outside the box with real estate which will give you the cash in order to explore bigger investments such as buying into an established Franchise, building your own business from scratch or investing in OIL.

Well if you look at the overall statistics, the stock market has provided an annual 8 - 12% return. Whilst real estate has returned 6-10%. (I don't have the proof on hand.) Real estate is a different kind of risk. If you are finances houses it doesn't count against net worth until you are out from under the property or have equity built up in it. They are both great investments and if you are invested in both you are diversified too. Good luck.

i accept that we shouldnt put all our eggs in one basket. the return of 8-10% in equity is seen in last 2 yrs whereas the return in real estate has been consistent. as of market is in bearish mode coz of that unexpected upsurge.
thanks

i invest in stocks but yeah i feel real estate is a safe bet. stock r not tht profiting on a long term basis and then again it requires us to give daily time and energy. with real estate one can jus invest, relax and c the price go up!! other options for investing...i must say rather than investing one must be an enterpreneur and invest in his own business...to multiply profits! i believe after a point of time MOMEY ATTRACTS MONEY!!!

i like it. Money attracts Money.
i ve read a qoute in some reasearch site, it says" an average business man earn 8.23 times more than a well salaried job employee"
so entrepreneur is the best option but it requires huge investment and for that u need to multiply your money by investing.

It depends on how much your budget to invest. But Real Estate is always a better choice.

I think both investments are great. They both have pros and cons. For instance when you purchase real estate you can borrow money from bank what is pretty hard with stocks. Let's say that you will buy family house for $200k with down payment $20k. If price will go up 5% per year, 1 year later the value of the house would be $210k what means $10.000 gain. But you put only $20k from your pocket and $180k you borrowed from bank and the gain is 10k what means return on your investment is 50%! This is called leverage - the ability to do more with less effort. I think this is the best thing about real estate that you don't need all money to buy RE.
It's all about your skills and knowledge.
And what comes to my mind about other long term investments - precious metals like gold and silver that are used mainly as protection against falling dollar but I don't know much about them.
Other possibility is to invest to business. It can be your business or someone else's who do you trust and believe in his/her entrepreneurial skills.

I really think that real estate investing is the best way to go. And I've just learned that you can invest your money withough even buying propertys. If you a have a good amount of money set a side, you could be a private lender to real estate investors. Where you would be funding there deals where you would get a high interest rate, higher than any ira, savings account,cd. Also the other side of real estate owning propertys, flipping, rentals are great too.

I love it when people ask this question. Lets say you invest $10,000 in the market with an average return of 7-12%. How much would you make in a year....??? $1,200. Now lets say you invest in a home. The average increase on homes in the united states per year is about 6%. Not much huh.... Lets do the math!! Invest that same $10,000 in a $200,000 home and sell it in a year. What would you make?? $12,000 HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?!?!? Let me tell you. You are make profit on the whole $200,000 and not just your $10,000. Amazing!!! If you want to know more, Please let me know!
