Wow, what a secret. Have you heard about the secret?
Everyone is talking about the secret. It's on Oprah, Ellen, Larry King and who knows where else. It is everywhere. It's huge. People can't get enough of this. Dream big it says. The universe is your catalog. What ever you desire is yours if you just ask for it.
I have read the book and also watched the dvd. It's really no secret. It has been around for ever. The power of positive thinking. It's true, if you believe in yourself, you will succeed. And yes, the mind is a very powerful tool if we use it to our advantage. I did enjoy the book, but I think the only secret is that we are very gullable and want so much to believe in magic. The writer took a well known fact and made it new with the power of words, calling the book "The Secret" was a powerful marketing strategy that made her very rich. The bible has the same message.

I love the movie The Secret and I watch it frequently. The soundtrack is amazing and always moves me to action.
However, all of that being said, I also see that there is a lot of confusion surrounding the concepts, what is necessary, what is not, etc.
Also, most naysayers are focusing on the fact that it is all about money, which - if you listen to the message about abundance - is ridiculous.
Using the Law of Attraction is about consciously creating your life to be what you want it to be. If that includes money, then that is great, but to say that the entire movie is about teaching people some "magical" way to make money is nothing less than short-sighted. In my humble opinion, of course! :)

I also have read the book and watched the dvd. I do believe in a lot of it, but it is pushing a little to hard on material things. It would be nice to let go of all bad habits and live in the moment and be positive all the time, but realistically, it's not so easy to do.

I think that it is true that a positive attitude is key to getting what we want from life. Many people don't believe it though.

Although I know the message behind The Secret is universal and has been around a long time, I don't think enough people put it into practice. We allow our day to day stresses to take over our lives and spend too much time dwelling on the bad and how to fix it instead of how we'd like the end result to be... ie. I have a load of debt. Wow, how do I fix this and get myself out of debt? Instead of I will soon be debt free.

I agree with your comments. It is very hard not to dwell or worry about debt. We do however have to try to fix the problem so stress in that case can be helpful because it motivates us to make changes. We can't just sweep it under the rug and ignore it. The secret to me means that as long as we are healthy and alive, we must not be afraid to live and go for things that make us happy in the world. The only thing stopping us is our own insecurities.
