Have you ever lost anything valuable due to a computer virus?

It seems like a terrible thing, but I feel I have been lucky so far!

No never, most viruses are not as bad as people give them credit for. You will never get into big problems with a personal computer IMO.

it might not be valuable as in money or important personal data, but i once lost a computer program due to a computer virus.
it was a program which i've created in order to bid for a government tender. it was due to be presented the next morning only to be ruined by a computer virus.
i was doing some last minute testing when suddenly a message with unrecognized character keeps popping. a several minutes later, my computer won't even boot!
luckily, it was only a prototype and luckily i have done a backup a day before.
