I like to watch that show. It is interesting to see what they come up with for each house. Tonight they picked a woman whose house had burned down. Then, they had started building a house that her 16 year old son had designed and he was killed in a car accident and the house had just sat there. Anyway...all of the tears from the tragedies, tears from the appreciative family, all of the giving from people donating their time and talents...it just is good to see how we, as sometimes selfish people, can rise up and give of ourselves to someone else who has had a hard time of it...an example of our innate goodness coming out. Great to see...

Even if I have heard some thougts that they could build two houses for the price of one luxury house, it proves that we feel great when we give and do something good to others.
Many of these people who get these houses are helping others unselfishly and really deserve help themsesves.
In my country people are so used to that the society takes care of all needs, which was more usual in the past, that they donĀ“t see that there are lots of low income people who struggle for living every day.
We should have some more of that "Giving To Others" spirit here too.

I have watched this on a number of occasions and it is a wonderful show and it is great that they have been able to help so many people who have needed a new or better place to live. I love all the ideas they have come up with when building homes for the people. It is amazing. Who knows but maybe we may be in the same position and could use this kind of help as well.

I love that show. This week they are featuring a family in my town. I am so excited! She is a grandmother that has taken in her grandchildren and they were living in a mobile home that had some things being held up by duct tape. Can you imagine? It's sad. I can't wait to watch it tonight!! I saw the one the you mentioned and you want to talk about crying like a baby? Man oh Man, I cried and cried.

Didn't you just love the show last night? I cried from start to finish and just absolutely fell in love with the grandchildren and their grandmother. I could certainly see why the school teacher fell in love with those kids. And now they will all get college scholarships also. I think that's just great! I think those kids were just precious. Their new house looked awesome, and grandma sure felt the same way.

I watch this show off and on but not regularly. I did watch it this evening and thought it was an amazing story and how they helped the grandmother and her grandkids turn their lives around and give them a wonderful home to live in and more. It was sad what they were living in previously and am glad that they have a better place to live now with all the extras included. They should do something like this for our homeless people to get people off the streets. It would not have to be as big as the houses we see them make.

That is definitely one of my favorite shows to watch, even if I do cry from start to finish. It's incredible how so many people and businesses in the area pitch in to get it all done. I am always amazed how they incorporate objects from the people's lives into their new homes also.

I used to watch it. Then, I sent a question about the show and got no reply. So, I lost interest.
I've always wondered who paid the taxes. As I understand it, you have to pay taxes on gifts over a certain amounts. Also, the property tax will probably be reassessed and may be more than the family can handle. That also makes me not want to watch the show because sometimes a blessing can turn into a curse.
If anyone can tell me good news regarding the tax situation, I may feel better about watching it.

these are valid concerns.
I am surprised you did not get an answer

My question was...okay, someone is giving you a house, but it is a very expensive custom-built house...what kind of a mortgage is it going to have and how in the world is the family...who usually on hard times...going to be able to afford to pay for it? Only on a couple of shows have I seen them mention a community or a business collecting donations to pay off a former mortgage (the house that was torn down) or paying off the new mortgage. I wouldn't be able to pay for any of these houses...they are way out of my price range! I think it is very cool, but if they are given a huge new mortgage to go along with the new house...it could very well turn bad.

Thanks! I mean, I'm real happy that they are getting their house fixed up. But, I feel there's always something that's not good that comes with it and it makes me sad. Especially since a lot of these people were bad off in the first place.
Buying a house is a dream for most people I know. But, it can often be more of a hardship than a help to some.

We have several make over shows here in the UK .. some are the full house thing .. and some programmes just one or two rooms ..
I wish someone would come and 'make over' my house .. but as I rarely like any of the decor they do it would probably be a disaster .. then again I am about to sell up and move into sheltered disability housing .. so I wouldn't care what it looked like ... just so long as it was clean and marketable .. heheh !

My husband and I just love that show. It is so nice to see them help someone that is in such need. Some of these people don't have houses to live anymore. It is sad it makes you feel like your problems are so small compared to theirs. I look forward to watching the show every Sunday.

That is probably the only show that I would watch and enjoy; Sad to say, I only watched like one and a half episodes; I was trying to see the one with the family that home burned down; but my kids was watching The Simpsons and Family Guy, so I will make a point to see it.

I like this show too. I watch it when i have the chance to. Actually, it's amazing how they could build a very nice house in a span of few days. The show's also touching because they choose those people who are really in need. I just wished we also have the same show here in our country.

I haven't seen many episodes, but I think it's a really neat show to watch. It's amazing how they can get all the work done, and all the inspections! It's a nice thing they can do for those families.

I love that show even though it makes me cry. It has some real meaningful stories. It makes you stop and think that your life isn't as bad as you think.
