I'm 21 years old and a mother of two. My son is four years old and he's very smart. He can count to ten and he's been able to do that since he was only three. He knows all of the basic colors and he knows shapes that normal four year olds don't know. He can't point out octagons, pentegons, triangles, rectangles, and squares. How many kids do you know that know those shapes at the age of four? We get in the car and he asks if he can play the numbers game. He's only four so he calls it the numbers game. We get in the car and while I'm driving he points out shapes of signs. He thinks it's fun! My daughter is only one and she talks really well for being one. You can actually understand the things she says. She loves Dora! Anything she sees that is Dora she wants. It's great! One thing I don't like about the way my children act is.....they both think they are older than what they really are.

It is tough in some ways when your kids are ahead of what they should be doing. However there are so many advantages to it as they will be able to do well at school and eventually get good jobs.
As long as your 4 year old is in a good nursery that can help him with his talents and you carry on working with them both at home they will turn into lovely bright children.

Thank you for your response. It is very hard being a young parent and taking care of two growing children. With them acting older than what they are there are many advantages and disadvantages to that.

First, welcome to MyLot and I hope you enjoy your stay here.As for your discussion,it sounds like a very proud parent(and a good reason to be so) with a young family.I hope you enjoy all your time with both children and remember to hug them at night no matter how the day may have gone(for you or for them).

Yeah, I believe nowadays kids act & think smarter compare to us. Perhaps they have accessed to more information nowadays, and parents today can spend more time to educate them well, compare to our old days.
Glad that you are really proud of your kids. ^_^

I'm so glad you joined our community..! Your children are amazing; there aren't many at their ages that could do all of that. You are so very blessed, and there is nothing wrong with them trying to act like they're a bit older than they are. They have a very smart, loving, and caring mommy who talks to them all the time and helps them along. That's why they are so smart and why they will continue to get smarter sooner than other children. When a parent cares for their children more than themselves, that's what happens. I truly admire you...Keep up the great work!

Hello babygirl, sounds like you have a very smart son there...I have a grandson that age ,and hes pretty smart but don't think he knows all the things your son does...You must work with him a lot,and thats very good...I see you are a young mother....I can tell you that your daughter will also do well because she will learn from your son...Children always copy each other, mine always did...Thats great he likes numbers, most kids would be bored...Oh my "Dora the explorer" is a biggie now,I think all the kiddo's love Dora...You know kids grow up really fast and I think kids are smarter these days than they were when I grew up,I was sill playing with dools at 12 years old haha...things really change

Yeah I just don't know what I'm doing right! lol! I know there is something that is helping them but, I think it might be that they catch on so quickly because they are around mostly adults.

You are a very proud mom and it is obvious. Children learn by being encouraged and lead. It is equally obvious that you are doing that. You help them when they get in the car with you by going along with the numbers game. The main thing in getting a child to learn is make it fun. There is nothing wrong with them thinking they are older than they are. I think children these days mature a lot faster. Look at all the advantages they have. The programs on television that teach in a fun way. As my son grew up he was around adults a whole lot and he also thought that he was older than any given age that he was. Children are like sponges. They soak up everything and anything that you can teach them. You are a excellent mom. Keep up the good work. God will lead your hand as your children grow.

I've noticed how kids are like sponges! My kids seem to copy eveything that anyone says. It's great though! I'm so proud of my son for being as smart as he is! My daughter is really smart too but, alot of people don't notice how smart she is because she's younger.
