I have moved in with a friend of mine so I could save money and pay some bills. She has a minature poodle and a bulldog (pug). I asked her how often she bathes them, she said not very often. The pug looks ok, but the poodle stinks and needs a bath very badly. What is the most polite way to handle this?

It depends. Does your friend do the bathing or she usually take her dogs to a grooming salon?
you can try this :
1. Say it in a "joking tone"
2. tell her that you want to see how she bathes her dog.
and pugs usually have that stinky order even if you bathe them often.. I'm not sure why the poodle stinks morethan the pug.. probably he needs some brushing because they do have thick coat.

if you are really close with that friend of yours, i hope you can find time to talk to her about the dog. maybe it's funnier and better if you two will bathe the poodle together. atleast, two good friends sharing some nice dids for the dogs. that could be fun!

Well, miracles, of miracles!...After writing this I got home and later that same day she bathed the stinky poodle didn't have to say a word! How's that for a miracle!!!! I am so happy and so glad you guys taught me a few things (that dogs shouldn't be bathed that often...I got that from my OCD ex-husband!)...thanks again!

Dogs really shouldn't be bathed all that frequently. It can damage their skin and fur. I think that the maximum should be 1x month or once every 2 months. If the dog smells, I recommend brushing the dog. You can also get spray products for dogs- almost like a body mist.
As far as dealing with your friend, you may just want to give her a dog brush or dog spray as a gift.

Dogs needs only to bathe once or twice at most in a week. If your friend's pets bathe less than this, she really has a problem. For the dogs sake, I think she should just have her dogs be adopted if she can't take care of their needs.
