Using dogs for fur on coats....

They had a piece on the Today show that had hidden cameras taking video of these places in China that would take dogs, German Shephard puppies, terriers, whatever they could find, and beat them into a garbage bag, then take them to skin alive for fur on coats. Many of the coats are even marked "Faux Fur", making those who would NEVER wear a real fur go against everything they believe! The ASPCA has taken action and put up lawsuits against some big name designers.
Knowing this, would you still buy "faux fur" and assume they were truthful or would you simply not buy any faux fur to make sure you're not buying the wrong thing?

No, in China they have no laws for animals at all. I once saw something on a news program that was so horrid you couldn't turn but wanted to. They skinned cats, caught them on the streets, tossed them LIVE into boiling water and skinned them live. Tossed them into a pile, still alive and screaming in pain. I seriously cried for days after that. It was the most horrible thing I've ever watched and what made it worse was they were doing it for these "fake" animals that were so adorable and so "real" like. They were REAL alright, created from the actual skin of a cat! The pieces were NOT marked as such and were actually marked "Not Real Fur". My girls and I had literally JUST bought one for each of them and one for a friend that couldn't have a pet in his apartment. We threw them out but it haunted us forever.

This is disgusting and I hope all those people doing this will get punished. I think now people shoud not wear any fur becasue they just don't know where it's coming from. Shame on them.

I aggree with you 100% howard. These people need to be punished, and the murdering of animals has to stop. Especially for something like a fur coat, that is just sickening. I have never nor will I ever wear fur. No Way!

I would definately make it my business not to buy any faux fur just to be on the safe side. Good for the ASPCA for finally stepping in. These people ought to be hung for what they are doing. This is pathetic and cruel to animals. It reminds me of 101 Dalmations. At least in the end the dogs were all back safe and sound including the extra ones.

That's horrible. I saw a program the other day where this woman was spinning yarn from dog fur undercoat, but the dogs weren't being killed. It was more like the dog fur was being taken from the dogs as wool is taken from sheep. I don't even buy faux fur, though.

What is the world coming to already; that is just one of the most horrible things I've heard in a long time. How someone could do that to our beloved pets, or any animals for that matter. I would never wear anything like that, or any other type of fur; don't like them, anyway.

This is awful! Geesh, yes I am boycotting all fur and faux fur, unfortuantely it's not much of a sacrifice for me! You know wool is a wonderful fabric.. has nice lanolin in it and everything.. and the lamb gets a good haircut for the summer months..

I've always thought that about wool. It's the perfect "fabric" for humans.... little to no real "stresses" on the sheep, a nice haircut for the summer and a warm coat for us in the winter. Although I have to admit watching them whip those lambs around to get their coats is a bit overwhelming if you love animals. But I do understand that they can't baby the animal to give them a shave when they have hundreds at a time to do! LOL

I saw this, too, and I'm appalled. There's a special breed of dog they breed called a "raccoon" dog because it is bred to look like raccoons. What they do to these dogs is very inhumane. I don't think I've bought "faux fur" before, though. We don't really wear coats too much in San Diego.

I think its horrible. I posted about this in here. I think that jc pennys should be ashamed of their choice not to remove these coats from the stores. Macys did remove the coats.I want to see tham all prosecuted and also every store exposed that is guilty of making a profit from this.We have to rise above this uncivilized behavior.when what goes around comes around , the karma for the greed is catching up with them.

Yeah, JC Penney's actually just marked out the type of fur that it said it was and said that was "legal". Who cares what's "legal" and what's not? What is ETHICAL!?

I've been trying to alert people to this horror. I've even seen a video where a dog was skinned alive and actually lived a few terrible seconds afterwards, his fur pealed from him like a shirt right over the head while hanging upside down. Please, just type in 'fur trade petition' and sign all the ones that you can!

I remember seeing something years ago about something similar, it was cats and dogs being skinned aline and then left to die.
I don't remember much of the details, it was very disturbing, I could not finish watching the whole thing. I don't remember them saying it was labeled as fake fur, but I do remember that the clothing was sold at Burlington coat factory and they stopped buying from that supplier.
I don't do fur - of any sort.

Personally i'm not a fan of wearing any kind of fur, fake or real (but would never, ever wear real fur), but if i was tempted i'd only buy my fake fur items from a respected and well know high street store to avoid being sold items that are actually real fur. In any case i think you can smell a difference between real & fake fur, and also the quality/texture is different too.

i have never bought fur before but knowing what faux fur is all about there is no way i would now. i saw about that on the news and its disgusting. if these well know designers know whats going on and still do that then they should be sued for everything they have.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the program. I have never been a fan of fur coats be they real or fake. I am glad that the ASPCA is taking action against this. It infuriates me how low people will stoop to make a buck or two.

I buy nothing with any kind of fur on it... I just never have liked the look of wearing animal fur...and faux fur ( if indeed it's faux) is just pretending to wear real fur...that doesn't make any sense to me!!!..I do however wear leather shoes and coats...so I am not saying I wouldn't or don't wear animal products!!!
