I cook almost everyday I love white rice, but I run out of ideas to cook it in a few days. I cook rice-a-roni a good bit. rice and gravy, rice with vegatables in it, rice and meat bake,(where you put cream of soup in the oven with rice and brown some type of meat on top and cook)I even do the homemade mexican rice with tomatoe paste. After that I go blank. I have 4 kids and rice is on the table alot. I would appreciate some ideas on this subject if you have any!

I made this myself and i would say this is really good. You have to get a very good kind of rice, like thai rice. Cooked it. Then you need chinese sausge which you can get fr the chinese store, cut them like 1cm.Then you have to prepare 1 pc of garlic finely chop, and slice into small pieces(cubes perhaps) the red bell pepper, leeks chopped, string beans cut into tiny pieces, and bean sprout. Put oil in a wok. Once it is hot, make the fire low, put the chinese sausage first, after it turns brown, add the garlic and mix them. Then add the the cooked rice and mix them like you are making a fried rice...once you think the rice stick to the laddle, then add salt for taste, before adding all the prepared vegetable and toss them well until you think the vegies are cooked, but i do not like to over cooked the vegies, i like them crispy.

I love gyoza, won-tons, or pot-stickers over rice. Teriaki chicken or salmon is great with rice too. Brown rice is a nice change and much healthier, and gives a different flavor to your usual recipes which pretty much doubles your recipes.

I cook Beans over Rice. In a skillet saute about 1/4 cup chopped white onion and about 1/4 cup chopped ham. To this add two cans drained pinto beans. Salt and pepper to taste, then sprinkle with cayenne pepper. Our family loves cayenne pepper (which is where I took my mylot Id from). Only add as much as you can take the heat. Simmer until beans are tender, (usually until my meat is done). Add a little water if beans get to dry. Serve over white rice and any side or meat you want. Our family loves it, hope you do too.

I have rice going on in my house at least 3 out of 5 days. I start off with heating up the water with a bouillon cube in it, by the time the water has boiled you have broth going on. then I add my rice, and when its done doing its thing, I'll add what ever veggie were eating to it and its always a crowd pleaser. Its a lot cheaper than buying the mixes and a lot healthier, less fat content! Hope this helps, enjoy, Fran

White rice is the staple food here in the Philippines. I do like to give some ideas on what can you make out in white rice. Have you made porridge out of rice? How about add some sweet delicacies made from rice? Kids would really love that. I Like to give you more about the details about the recipe but this will take me time to type it all here. Lol. Just simply go to any Philippine native sweets sites or you can also check out Japanese dishes that also incorporate rice most of the time.

Oxo do some great stock cubes italian mexican etc that are fab for adding flavour to your rice durign cooking. Chinese style egg fried rice is really tasty and easy. Risotto's always go down well. If your family like smoked fish kedgeree is yummy. Have you tried a website call allrecipes.com that is great just tell it you want rice dishes and it will give you loads of suggestions and it is easy to alter the recipes to cater for large or small numbers. It is great that you take such care in cooking good home made meals for your kids, and I know they can be a nightmare with healthy food but have you ever tried brown basmati rice? It is much lower on the glycemic index and swapping this for the white rice will help your family maintain stable blood glucose levels and feel more satisfied for longer. Hope you find some dishes your family will enjoy!

Hi! When I was a kid, my mom used to make porcupine meatballs. You make regular meatballs (however you like them) and add rice (I recommend cooked rice, most of the time uncooked rice didn't get cooked and was hard in the meatballs) to the meatball ingredients. Then bake the meatballs in tomato or spaghetti sauce. I'll bet your kids would love it. Also, we used to have rice with just canned chunky soup served over it. That's a quick hearty meal, too. :-)

Thanks1 Love the meatball idea that's almost a whole meal in one. Soups like bunkerhill? That sounds like something soon to try especially with baseball practice underway!

I love white rice too and have it all the time. Last night I had made Thai yellow vegetable curry with white basmati rice. Here's the recipe for Thai curry: INGREDIENTS: * YELLOW CURRY SAUCE: * 2 cans good-quality coconut milk * 1/2 tsp. fenugreek * 1 tsp. coriander seeds * 1 tsp. black mustard seeds * 1-2 green or red chillies, de-seeded (or leave seeds in for a spicer curry) * 1 Tbsp. ground cumin * 1/2 tsp. turmeric, dried, OR 1 thumb-size piece fresh turmeric, peeled and sliced * 3 cloves garlic * 1 thumb-size piece galangal or ginger, peeled and sliced * 1 stalk lemongrass, sliced thinly (or purchase already prepared in the frozen section of your local Asian grocery store) * 1/2 onion * 3 Tbsp. fish sauce, vegetarian fish sauce, or soy sauce/tamari * 1 tsp. shrimp paste (if vegetarian, substitute 1 tsp. dark soy sauce) * approximately 1 cup fresh coriander, including the stems * 2 Tbsp. brown sugar (or substitute honey or xylitol) * juice of 1/2 lime * 2-3 kaffir lime leaves, frozen or dried (find these at your local Asian grocery store) * VEGETABLES (choose from any of the following, or add your own ingredients) * 1 can fava beans or chick peas * approximately 2 cups bok choy, baby bok choy, or Chinese cabbage, chopped * 4-6 shiitake mushroom, sliced * red, green, or yellow bell pepper, sliced * 1/2 japanese eggplant, sliced (leave skin on) * 1 large carrot, sliced * 1 cup broccoli * 1 cup cauliflower * 1 cup fresh basil, roughly chopped if the leaves are large (for garnish) * Other Ingredient: * canola or other vegetable oil for stir-frying PREPARATION: # Place 1/2 can of the coconut milk (reserve the rest for later) plus all other sauce ingredients in a food processor. Process well. You now have a homemade yellow curry paste. # Place 2 Tbsp.# canola or other oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium to high heat. Add the curry paste and gently stir-fry for 1 minute, or until fragrant. # Add the other 1/2 can of coconut milk and stir. Now add those vegetables that require the longest cooking time, such as the carrots, mushrooms and cauliflower. Stir well and bring to a simmering boil. Turn down heat to medium, cover, and cook for 5 minutes. # Add the second can of coconut milk plus the bell pepper(s), japanese eggplant, and beans. Stir well and cover, allowing to cook for another 5 minutes. # Lastly, add the broccoli and bok choy/Chinese cabbage. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes, or until broccoli is bright green and cabbage has softened. # Remove from heat. Do a taste test. If the sauce is too bitter, add 1-2 Tbsp. more brown sugar, and/or 1 Tbsp more fish sauce/soy sauce (use the fish/soy in place of salt). # Sprinkle with fresh basil and serve with plenty of Thai jasmine-scented rice (white or brown). This dish also works well served with white or whole-grain couscous, or white/whole-grain basmati rice. Looks like an elaborate procedure but hardly takes 20 minutes. I left out the kaffir lemon leaves and lemon grass. Didn't make much difference. This recipe doesn't call for salt because of the soy sauce but I added salt in the end. Hope you like it...enjoyy!

in the Philippines we should have rice servings for lunch and dinner . rice is our staple food that we can eat with any dishes we prepare like with chicken with vegetables , grilled pork or pork adobo , seafoods , beef steak or stew and different recipes that are best eaten with rice ! we can make breakfast with rice and hot cocoa that we fondly call champorado - prepared the samely with congee or arroz caldo .

How about sweet and sour pork on top of rice. Beef stew on rice. Shrimp on rice. Chicken chow mein on rice. Why don't you switch to noodles for a while instead of rice, then go back to all your other rice favorites.

i love my rice and always have, i often make rice with cheese and rise with tune and oyster sauce both are lovely. with the cheese you have to heat the rice a bit first then put the cheese in it then stick it in the microwave for about 30 seconds to melt the cheese into the rice. yummy

Hey. If you can prepare beef stew, then you are doing pretty darn good. Try it in the crockpot. Put some water in and add the beef stew. i usually get 2 packs of the brown gravy mix and add that. i sometimes add potatoes or carrotts or onions or sometimes all or part of them. That is a very delicious meal over rice after about 6 hours of cooking. And makes great leftover snacks for the weekend when we have games and all the other activities. Look back into this discussion for some other great quick ways to make rice. I know I have a list and will use it frequently.

I grew up on a recipe similar to this except that my Mother did it from scratch and I was too young to remember exactly how she made it. I've come up with this modern method. Raisins and Rice Pudding Yields: 6 servings INGREDIENTS: 3 1/2 cups fat-free milk 1 cup uncooked instant rice 1 (4.6 ounce) package cook and serve vanilla pudding mix 1 cup raisins 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon DIRECTIONS: 1. In a saucepan, bring milk and rice to a boil over medium heat. Whisk in pudding mix; cook and stir for 1 minute or until thickened. Remove from the heat; fold in raisins. Cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Spoon into individual dessert bowls. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve warm.

I guess for most Asians, rice is the main meal. Usually I cook 2-3 dishes together with white rice. The difference is based on the variety of dishes that I know how to cook. If I'm lazy or running out of time, then I'll just fry an egg or some vegetables. Cooking a simple soup adds on to a dish too. Sometimes, I'll marinate the meat, either chicken meat or pork with soya sauce and pepper, keep them overnight in the fridge, then just fry them. If you want to meat to be more tender, you can add in some corn flour when you marinate the meat. These are all simple dishes that I cook for my daily meal. Fried rice is a good choice too. I usually fry rice once a week, coz it's simple to cook and it's nice to eat. I like to put ginger in the fried rice. Well, all these are Chinese style, I'm not sure if you will like it. I've found this website for rice recipes around the world, hope you'll find some that you are interested in: http://www.ricegourmet.com/Recipes.htm

Try mixing baked beans and cheese in cooked rice. Kids usually love this kind of rice. You can also cook rice in chicken stock instead of water, it will give an amazing aroma and taste. You can also make green rice by mixing cooked rice in a gravy of onions, garlic and spinach, tastes yummy, is healthy and can sprinkle grated cheese on top of it to make it more apealing to kids.

My girlfriend and I usually put this together in 20 minutes and it tastes amazing. We don't measure anything. It's all to taste. White rice broccoli (cut and microwaved for 1-20 minutes to soften) cheese, enough to cover everything. put vegetable seasoning on the whole thing with some soy sauce. Make sure you put the cheese in last, just long enough to melt it all. It's really think, really filling, and really good. Seriously you need to try it.
