I think theoritically democracy works better, but soon corruption and greed make this very hollow. Sooner or later all democratic countries experience the problems of bribe and corruption. On the other hand, the fear of a dictator actually helps in reducing the corruption. But, if the dictator is a tyrant than nobody in the country is safe and then it becomes a hell for every one.
So in that manner democracy is the lesser evil of the two.
Cheers!

You could argue that Castro is a tyrant dictator, despite his failing health he still has an iron grip on his country. Also, the government of Myanmar seems to be pretty tyranical, and is also dictatorial, though I can't say whether it is vested in a single person. Kim Jong Il is another tyrant dictator. His people starve while his politicos live in luxury, he pursued and gained WMD's to the detriment of his people.
Russia seems to be slipping back into a kind of tyranical despotism. Hosni Mubarack of Egypt is a dictator and a tyrant. These are just the ones that come to mind in a minute or so, and certainly not all of them.

I'm a firm believer of a Democracy (hence me being a military member.) I think countries that have civilian control of the military are in an advantageous position. Military controlled countries are in a states of disarray and democracies are flourishing. Even the might communist China can't stop the pressures and advantages of capitalism.

If I HAD to choose between those two, I'd choose democracy, since, as a citizen, I want a say in how my country is run.

The democracy is always better than the military rule.Since its not an imposed government on the people. In democracy people have there own ruler as they select it.while in case of military regime they proved to be dictators as have been seen in past that militery rules have always been biased.certanly there are some demerits of democracy but to raise problems which rose in Iraq or Pakistan,Afganistan,Myanmar etc.have very less possibility in democracy.
