Why do we say we are only Human when we make mistake?

Every time I do something that I know I should not do I defend my mistake by saying I am only human as if it justifies my wrong doing. Is this a cop out?

We say it because it is true. Human beings are by nature flawed. Everything we do has the potential to be totally messed up because of our flawed nature.
