Can you recognize yourself in the mirror?

Who am I? - Mysterious man.

I know this might sound strange, but sometimes, I cannot recognize myself in the mirror. And I don't mean me looking into the mirror after a break of a few months or years. Lol, I don't think I can find a suitable cave in Singapore to be a full-time caveman. :P In fact, even when I flip through the photos I have taken - recent ones included - the same thing happens to me. I would look at the photos and study myself really closely. Hmm.. interesting... you mean that's how I look? Then I make comparisons with a few photos, and I think I really look different in all of them! And I'm already trying to be objective. Yet, the strangest thing is that I can recognize others well enough. Just not myself. So does this happen to you too? Or can you recognize yourself even if you cover half your face or paint it blue? Do I just happen to be the odd one out again? Do share your thoughts. ;-)

nothing odd about it. when we look at our photos after a long time i does make us think or even smile at ourselves. but its a wonderful feeling. obviously everyone is growing everyday alongwith physical changes takeking place with age. now recognising myself with a blue paint, that recalls the holi festival of colors. after the days celebration everyone is just covered with different colors all over the face.lol and really difficult to find out who's who unless they are very well known or one of my family members out there. its only after returning home and before getting a shower i look at my face and Gosssssssssshhhhhh its awesome and funny looking face of myself with those colors .lol ps--- hey your avatar is animated now. looks great now pal

Yea, I guess aging could be part of the reason. PS.: Thanks for sharing the trick for animated avatar. I managed to shrink my original animated one that didn't work to one-tenth the original size. So it's working now. Thanks for your help. ;-)

I haven't thought of his but one thing I know..I am definitely getting older and and I cannot recognize myself in the sense that the years have gone by and I haven't managed yet to be any where near where I want to be..

You are the first person that has ever said that they can not recognize themself in the mirror to me. It happens to me sometimes too. I look and I look and wonder who is staring back at me. That is not Linda. Know I really sound crazy right. I relate to your pictures too. I feel relieved that someone else feels like me.

Ya some times it does happenes that I am not able to recognise myself in the mirror or the photos and also sometimes I am not even able to connect my self with the moments captured in the pictures. I don't know why but its totaly strange that I also can recognise most of other people. I sometimes feel that living in the hostel is affecting my body a lot but sometimes I myself get amazed when I can't recognise myself and tend to think that is it affecting me that much. Any Ways Take Care May GOD Bless YOU

You silly wizard, of course I can recognize myself when I look at the mirror. I just check if my eyes, nose, mouth and ears are still intact. I also counted each strand of my hair just to make sure I'm not going bald. I look cuter though if I put on a green mask on my face...Sometimes, pictures taken will not be the same as what you really look like. Maybe, you should change your eyeglass. Or your eyes are too chinky you can't see yourself better. I still can't picture you out everytime I look at your avatar. It looks like a female warrior..."wink"

LOL, so you are not the only one who thinks this way. If you look at my original avatar (the big one), yes, I would agree that the gender might have been female. But it's a 50-50. It can either be a male or female but since that is the closest wizard kind of photo that I can find, I just kept it. Now that that I have shrunk it, it is too small to even guess it might not be male. If you haven't seen my previous, you won't think anything amiss. :P

most of the time i can recognise myself in the mirror... but about picture, sometimes i am wondering is that really me in the picture because honestly speaking i am not a photogenic person and i look uglier in the picture than my real self... that's the reason why i don't like to take picture... but now i am better... i recognise myself better in the picture compare to in the past when i am younger...

Are you going through a lot of changes in your life right now? I've been feeling like that lately, but I have good reason to. I have cancer, and so the steroids made me gain weight. I am bald from the chemo. I wear wigs sometimes. I am pale, because I'm not allowed to tan right now. It's crazy. I look sick most of the time, with dark rings around my eyes. This has all happened within the past 2 or 3 months, so when I look in the mirror, I have no idea who that person is. As for you, I am not sure why you're having this problem. How old are you? Are you at that age where you're just now discovering who you really are? Both physically and emotionally? Sometimes these things can change how you view yourself. Also, If you're going through a self-discovery phase, you may be doing new things with your hair, clothes, makeup, and so on. Those will also cause you to pause at a photo or at the mirror. Hope that helps somewhat!

Yes I can. But I don't know whenever I look my face at my mirror I don't see anything change at my face while my son always mocking at me as "crying face", because when he see me sleep he look my face always looked very, very sad and as if I was thinking about very hard problem. Actually he is right, because I must confess here that the are alot of problem irritating my heart I don't tell anyone and I am going to depression.

Your post made me think of a news story I saw recently. It was about a condition that prevents people from seeing and recognizing themselves. It is a real condition, but I cant for the life of me remember what it is called. It was pretty serious, and a lot more common than you would think. I am off now to look it up, and will post something back if I find it.

I found it. Its called Face Blindness. I was thinking it was surely a long medical term, but apparently not. Here is an article on it: http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/conditions/02/02/face.blindness/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

that was a problem with me in my teenage years when i couldn't relate myself to my reflexion.i would look at myself thinking is it really me? is this the girl who is known as....?that's the way i look?:) but i m noticing since couple of years i have come to terms with myself & my personality and now when i see myself in mirror i can recognize myself as i can relate myself with the person in the mirror! by the way some people(including me) do look different in the photographs!! u r not odd, u r of a philosopher mood!!lol and perhaps that's what prevents u from recognizing ur own features:P

I sometimes wonder who the fat lady is, then remember its me. My personal self immage is thinner than I really am. But I really don't have any trouble recognizing myself. Tho, back in my 30's, first thing in the morning, I used to look like Mick Jagger - all puffy eyed & lips. Happily it didn't take too long to look better than that!

Of course I always recognize myself in front of the mirror. For over 27 years of bringing up my face everyday I have no reason at all not to recognize my face.I tried covering my face now and even paint it with rainbow color, I still do recognize it.

I do recognise myself in the mirror its only that the one to change for the good is you and the bad being the one in the mirror.they are the ones to tell you and not yourself.they give you the best description of you.

I think that it is pretty common to look and see someone and you know it is you however the picture in your head is different. Pictures can be true and they can mislead. Will be neat to see if others are like we are. Again I would think that it is pretty common!

Well I know what you mean, there are times when I am down and looking at my pictures of childhood but when I look into the mirror, I can not recognize who I am. There are thoughts like is the person in the picture really me? (even though I know it is me) I do also wonder whether I can regain that care free smile of mine. I also get flooded my memories and when I look back in the mirror I cannot help but retort "Is that really me?"

May be it all depends on the moods you are in. You tend to look more bubbly when happy and mellow when sad. so dont worry after all you know its you.........thatz the matter

This sounds strange to me! I have never experienced anything like that. Other than a slight shock when i see my reflection somewhere and notice just how big my belly or behind has gotten lately.
