How many barbie dolls did you have when you were a kid? or how many barbies did you buy your daughters during their childhood? yeah, barbie dolls have been an icon and I admit I had a couple of them when I was yet a little baby girl.. I remember my aunts and Godparents giving me lovely barbies on my birthdays and on christmas...:P and am also giving my younger sister some barbies now, the ones I've outgrown with and some new ones...:P Now, would you believe when the Mattel Inc. (the manufacturer of Barbie) claims that over a billion barbie dolls have been sold worldwide, and said further that at least three barbie dolls are sold every second? What is your take on this?

When I was a kid, I loved Barbies!! I had about 150 of them. Everybody would always buy them for me for my birthday or Christmas. I remember one Christmas, I ended up getting 10 of them. But I played with them all the time, so it's not like they just sat around. I think that I was about 13 when my mom and I counted them up. That was about the age that I really wanted nothing else to do with them. We ended up putting them on a garage sale. The only sad thing about all of it was that I had some of the Holiday Barbies that were still boxed. Today, those are worth a lot of money.

hi there! i'm not really a fan of barbie when i was a kid. i just have around 5 barbie dolls. but actually we have lots of barbie dolls in our house. when i mean a lot, that means plenty and plenty of barbie dolls! as in huge collection! my gay uncle is a barbie collector/fanatic! he owns around 350 barbie dolls, all original! he's been collecting barbie for 20 years now. he has different kinds of barbie dolls, from the ordinary ones to special editions... he also have kens, danas, and other friends of barbie. he even got the a whole beverly hills 90210 cast dolls which were also made by mattel! my uncle also make customized barbie doll dresses and gowns. and when you see his creations it's like looking at celebrities in a red carpet event! also, he and some of her fellow barbie collectors even have pageants for barbie dolls! they patterned these pageants from the existing beauty contests we have right now, such as miss universe, miss international and miss world! my young niece also collects barbie dolls and i guess she inherited this hobby from my uncle. her own collection is also huge! her parents, grandma and grandpa always buy her barbies. so now both of their barbie collection are still growing since mattel produce a lot of new barbie! :)

I only had about 5 of them, but we had a friend who had dozens plus all the accesorries! Honestly I don't think I'd buy my future kids barbies. There are so many more better toys out there now. When we were kids, barbie was about it, but now you can buy all sorts of educational AND fun toys that do more than just dress up. I don't understand the thrill of barbies because I always got bored with them easily. It's more fun to play with a doll or toy that you can actually do multiple things with - dress up is only fun for so long.

My daughters and granddaughters have had Barbies. They weren't around when I was a kid. I had Madame Alexander dolls. I would not doubt that there may be billions of Barbies.

I had one Barbie and one Skipper when I was small. However, my daughters had just about everyone that came out. They loved them. I recently saw new fairy Barbies, and if I could have afforded it, I would have gotten one for myself.

Oh yeah, totally believe those stats. I think Barbie is just something that has been around long enough for new generations to keep loving. I'm definitely going to buy my new niece Barbie dolls when she's older:) I probably had 10 or 20 when I was younger, but my Mom admits she probably had about 50 to 100 with her sister. Maybe a bit extreme, haha... but it definitely was a lot more fun to me to play with them rather than watch TV! :)

Barbie Renaissance - This picture of Barbie makes me kinda angry. She's wearing less than I wear to bed, and yet she's a role model for young girls.
As a child I loved Barbie Dolls. My mom and my family always bought them for me for Xmas or my Birthday. My sister loved the Sindy Dolls and we spent HOURS playing with them. However, I don't feel that Barbie is a good role model anymore. Researchers have linked Barbie to eating disorders in young girls. The study found that the Barbie dolls, which are far thinner than traditional shapes, particularly at the waist, make girls want to be unrealistically slim when they grow up. For the full story on this, the link is here. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article1083049.ece I also believe that Barbie is partially to blame for the prostitots popping up everywhere - young girls wearing mini skirts, halter neck tops, high heels and even makeup. Back when I was a child, Barbie at least covered up. Nowadays, she wears less than I wear to bed!

Sad to say, i never had any barbie doll. all i had when i was a kid was 'chucky's bride' doll! no stylish clothes to be proud of. i wanted it so bad that i prayed to God to have the doll by my bedside when i woke up in the morning! I can buy them now, but it won't be appropriate...

I had two Barbie dolls when I was young. One was named Tracy, and a dark-haired Barbie named Laura. Well, my dark-haired Barbie is not actually Barbie, but a friend of hers. I mean, they're still considered Barbie dolls, right, even if they are not Barbie itself. I had fun playing with them together with my friends and their own Barbie dolls. When my daughter is old enough, and she wants one, I'd buy her as many as she wants, and even buy her a cool Barbie house. That was my dream toy when I was young, a Barbie house..

barbie dolls are really really fantastic.they r beautiful and attractive.i dont think no other doll is as popular as barbie dolls.every girl child would like to have one in their hand.one of my childhood dreams was to have a room full of barbie dolls only and only for me.its true that time has changed my dream but still if anybody offers me a barbie doll i wont say NO.

We we're poor when I was a kid. There were four of us siblings - all girls - and we had this goldilocks type doll that we share (one doll). Barbie had been an angst for me. Luckily all of us became successful professionals in our field. I was 35 when I finally decided to cure of myself of my angst and bought myself my Barbie. Do I have to tell everyone that it brought me to tears? Yes, poverty is ugly.

i love barbies, too. im already an adult right now but whenever i see my nieces with their new barbie dolls, i'm giddy with excitement. i used to own 12 dolls. but my mom gave them away before my brother could cut their heads off. right now i find the 12 princesses and fairytopia really cute! oh, and also mermaidia. cute dolls! so lovely and exquisite. i wanted to collect them but some might think that im having a second childhood phase. not to mention they got really expensive over the years.

Oh I had quite a few dolls when I was growing up maybe around 10 of them, I never had a barbie doll but my children did. I bought them about 3 each of my two daughters. I do think that Mattel Inc would be telling the truth about this, as nearly every home that you go into when they have little girls in their homes they have barbie dolls.

I loved barbies when I was growing up. I am guessing I had at least 10 or more! When we moved I sold them all really cheap. I kept I think two. I had a ballet one and one more. I just wanted the ones I loved the most. I didnt see a purpose in keeping them. I do collect things but NOT Barbies. We were moving... I recall the excitment of the western barbie (I had all 3), and the hawaii ones (um like 4?). Yeah barbies rocked. But SO unrealistic as far as how a real lady is *L*
