Odd Socks, What do you do with them?

Socks, Where do they go? - Socks, Where do they go? Missing & Odd socks
Australia

Today Friday & Tomorrow Saturday are my only days off work, before Miss 10 soon to be 11’s birthday party next week. So I am working on the mad clean up. One of the jobs that seems to be kept being “put off” is the odd sock pile. I’m biting the bullet and going to work my way through them. What do you do with your odd socks? I have a sock tree where the odd socks live until I can find there partners, But after a while, their partner never seems to show up… it seems a shame to just throw them in the bin. Any Ideas?

when i buy socks i buy like 10 pairs, and all the same! so when i wash them the worst thing that can happen is that i miss one sock! and when one of the socks has a hole i throw that one away and keep the other one untill the next one get's a hole or something! it saves money and time!

We did the same with hubbie & daughter, daughter got 11 pairs of matching socks for Christmas... I'm not sure we can find a couple of matching pairs now.. hubbie works on the same principle. I am sure the washing maching eats them... *sigh* lol

I also keep a sock basket. When the mates don't show up the odd balls become cleaning rags. As they are soft and will not scratch they are perfect for wood furniture and the sock fits over the can of polish for storage til next time. For cleaning the car too. I keep a can of Armor All in the trunk with a sock over the bottle. They are perfect for cleaning mini blinds just slip over hand and wipe away. I ahve heard of people using them in layers to make oven mitts but since I don't sew,I never tried it.

Wow, a sock tree. What an awesome idea. I just rated you a + for this posting. I personally, throw out all odd socks. I will hold them about a month. If the mate doesn't show up, out it gets tossed. If you want to stuff them and make animal shapes, you can do that with the odd ones.

My mum hates my sock tree, lol, it is one of those frames you buy with pegs attatched, ment for hanging small items on the line. Every time my mum visits she takes all the socks off my sock tree bags them to use the frame on the wash line, When she leaves I have to refind all the lost socks and start again... lol

well some people i have seen they put things in them like batteries instead laying around the house, also like give them a wash so not smelly then put some nice smelly stuff in there and hand up in the wardrobe. other than that my dog intends to like them. i did have ideas but ive forgotten them now sorry.

If you put a small rubber band around the socks before you wash them, you don't lose them. Took me a while to get my kids convinced to do this but now they do it regularly. Before that I had enough odd socks to keep a one legged person in socks for an eternity.

I have taken mismatched or torn socks and shredded them up, then take a piece of material sew it up and stuff it with the socks. It makes a nice pillow with sock stuffing. Don't make it too big or it will be too heavy. The best one I ever made was from my sons favorite shirt that was way too small for him. I took the t-shirt cut the arms off, sewed it all around stuffed it with his socks and gave it to him for a birthday gift. He was 10 at the time, he is 19 now and still has that pillow. LOL

I do too. I don't have alot of odd socks, but when I stumble upon a loner, I try to find his match. It's not an easy task, in most cases and in some - it is never found. But it's fun to look for it. :)

OK, we have other way to get rid of that old sock. We used to live in a place where it is too far from the civilization no grocery to buy toys and have a wide space to play softball and baseball. What we do wth this unmatched socks, we clean them.. then roll it round... until we created a "baseball like" ball.. :) then.. stitch the end .. and voila.. we just have a sockmade baseball ball.. its not as hard as ball so when you are accidentally hit, its not that hard.. :) :)

What great ideas thankyou, not very practical for me as we don’t have a horse, and we are weeks away from level 5 water restrictions, so no washing of the car. Thanks for responding.

Wish I knew where all those odd socks go to myself. Often wondered if I should take out a 'lost' add. However at my house, I have a specific handled blue wire basket that I call 'The Lost Soles Division' and I put all the mismatched socks there and when the basket gets full, I match them up. Its a small basket that sits right on my dresser so that I can't let it get too full. If I have to look at a sock for for than a month, it gets reduced to a dust rag. Here's to finding all the lost socks...

Hello, I use my old socks for dusting. I also keep them for rags like when cleaning the basement to wash down appliances and things like that.

I toss them sometimes, but sometimes I keep them in case I lose another one that matches and I can pair them up. However, I dont do this often, sometimes i'll just get lazy and toss them, but right now we have a huge sock heap that I also have been putting off and need to go through.

In my view ,socks that was notable to use by anyone should throw away or burned. If you don't like the socks , give it some one ,who get it useful.

I use my old socks as rags...they come in handy when cleaning the bathroom. And if you have small children...maybe you could use them as sock puppets!? :)
