I already don't understand why people would go thru the pain of cosmetic surgery to become more beautiful. (I'm NOT anti-plastic surgery before that starts a debate) But I just saw the scariest thing ever. A place that reshapes the eyes of Asian people to make them look... well... more like Caucasian eyes in my opinion. Now that BUGS me. I think Asians have beautiful and expressive eyes. Why would they want to change them? Here is a link to what I saw. *shudders*

I totally agree with you. Its like where there is a lot of black people getting nose jobs to get a 'white nose' (Beyonces and other celebrities are rumoured to have had this done). How silly! It doesn't even suit peoples faces to get features of another race. I think its very sad if people cannot accept the features which make them what they are.

I do too. I also think a unique person is nicer to look at. Australia is very multicultural. I try not to stare, but when i see someone of a race I'm not used to seeing I study their features as much as I can get away with. Meh... people.

This makes me really, really sad. And really disgusted at the same time. But I know the answer to why people get these surgeries. White is the dominant race in America. I'm not saying they're better or superior- but they are the ones in power. Racism is still very real in America. And it's a proven fact that even among racial minorities, those who look closer to being white usually have the higher status and the better opportunities.
I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the Asians having their eyes changed were called "slant-eyes" or other racial insults by a good number of people. Racial prejudice and discrimination is very hurtful, and it can make people wish they weren't who they are. It's really sad that these people feel the pressure so strongly that they feel they have to surgically change their facial features.

That's one thing that burns me up about it. Some people can be so hurtful that they can make another human being want to go through the pain of surgery to change their body. I also wish that people could grasp the fact that if someone is picking on them that the person doing it is in the wrong. They shouldn't change themselves to fit the standards of morons.

I think it's because universal standards of beauty are still largely biased towards Caucasian features. Look at Miss Universe, Miss World or other beauty pageant winners. Or even the top models. Most of them are Caucasian or Latina. You may see a few Asians among them or a few Africans, but they are in the minority.

Yeah! you're right. Not to be offensive, but I'm getting kind of sick of the way TV excludes some races and women with truly exotic looks don't get much attention. Thanks for responding =)
