BEANS the Answer to Alternate Energy?

Beans, Alternate Energy Source - Flammable gas
United States
March 16, 2007 10:56am CST
I was pondering a way to help our environment and the energy problems and I had a brainwave(?!!) it was: As well all know beans can cause flatulence which causes gas to be passed. From many scientific experiments we have learned that gas is flammable. Why does the government not spend some of that money, our tax dollars which they generously give to other important causes, on a new laboratory where they could feed humans or animals large meals consisting of beans then harvest the gas and process it into energy?? Your learned opinions are welcome. Photo: Beans.

LOL This sounds like one of those postings that DoubleB66 would take and really spin off on. (Do you miss him as much as I do?)

Yes I do. I keep checking his profile to see if he logged in. I am getting a bit worried about him. He would have given a great response.

I also left him a message. I read on another thread that he had to have brain surgury but I haven't heard anything since. I think I'll leave another message and see what happens. He was the heart and soul of this place and I sure would like to know he's okay and coming back....I only live a few miles away and could easily check on him if I had his name but all I know him by is his Mylotian screen name.

Whitehaether I am so pleased that someone else has finally realised the full potential of using human wind as an energy source! Given the right fuel (which is most food!) my partner, daughter and best friend could probably create enough power to provide half of Scotland! Needed that lift just now honey!

I know one person who has the power to provide the energy for the rest of Scotland

LOL that is a very nice idea I must say but don't you think harvesting that gas would be a very unpleasant job..lol That gas maybe flammable but maybe it doesn't have enough to actually provide energy...maybe..just a thought ;o) But again if it does then you really should send in your idea to the White House:)

I don't know how you come up with them, but this is really funny...lol. The government could all donate their time to the experiments and they wouldn't have to be fed any beans. They are already full of gas...lol.

You are so right then I would be even cheaper to produce.

Exactly how do you recommend that the gass is collected, how about using commodes in call centres (I hate call centres), and just sucking up the gas while the staff are producing all that hot air!! Gas produced by cows is methane which is 20 times more harmful to the environment than CO2, and if it could be collected can be used for producing energy as CH4 + O2 (methane burning in oxygen) give CO2 + H2O (carbon Dioxide and Water). Incidentally CO2 is only a greenhouse gas in a greenhouse, and is much misalligned. (methane is a greenhouse gas as it is lighter than air). CO2 is heavier than air so cannot be a greenhouse gas and is easily converted to O2 by plants, or dissolves in the ocean to be absorbed by plankton.

Energy - Our world needs a lot of energy to keep running. Feeding animals with beans and collect the gas they produce is one way to provide large amount energy for our cities to run continually after centuries and centuries.
Wow, you got a novel idea. Feeding animals with beans and collect the gas they produce as a possible way of get endless energy. Maybe scientists are already investigating the possibility of producing such an environmental friendly energy products. I think the animals can divided into groups and work on shift. After producing gas one day, one of the groups may rest by eating something else and enjoy their leisure by roaming on a grassland. Then another group take its place and start feeding on beans and produce the gas instead. Then they shifting work keep going on in endless cycles. If this works, the problems of shortage of oil many no longer be troubling us.

I cannot believe I just read this.....lol.... After all these years of suffering and all the misery I have caused people around me after eating beans, to think that all that effort and energy could have bean put to good use..... Another wasted resource.... lol...lol...lol...lol

i saw a news program once where they had a iowa farmer had this potatoe and cow poop mixture that made some type of fuel to use in vehicles, but the government wouldn't back him with funds to get it going. how great would that be? i think we have alot of cow poop and potatoes! another opporturnity foiled by our oil companies im sure.

Oh, I don't know about this. I can't stand the smell of peoples exhaust as it is. Can you imagine the "smell pollution" from all that gas..lol I want to know how we will collect it...and who will collect it. I think maybe instead of a brainwave you may have had a 'brain fart' ...lol just kidding..hehehe I don't think it would work but it is creative..lol

Beans??!! Okay lol I gotta admit while the idea is novel and funny, it's not feasible. Growing that huge amount of beans to power say, China, would take the whole of Australia (just hypothetically). We're already growing corn and developing palm oil as biofuel. So, developing beans as an alternative source of renewable energy takes up a whole lot more resources that could be committed to further the research being done on commercially viable fuels. Besides, I think that to produce enough gas to burn in order to generate electricity, the amount of beans needed would be staggering. Growing that much beans would potentially harm the environment. Although it reduces the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, the large-scale farming would eventually make the area infertile and not fit for agriculture in the future. Just my thoughts. =)

Makes sense to me, but I am afraid that someone will tell me that our alternate energy source makes methane gas, and that is a contributer to the greenhouse effect, and we will need to use more air fresheners, with propellant. Same problem. I guess if the terrorists wanted to stop our bean energy, they would have to put Beano in our water supply, lol. My hubby says I am wrong about the methane it is something else. Maybe it is sulphur dioxide

Interesting idea. They already know how to use pig poop fumes to make fuel. Bet if we added beans to the piggies diets we'd get more output LOL
