Thanks for posting this question. I have been looking up fabric on ebay and there were several selling fat quarters and didn't know what it was. I didn't ask anyone because I didn't want to sound stupid. But as one of my friends is always telling me there is no stupid questions because if you are wondering then there is a good chance someone else is asking themselves the same thing. Thanks again.

I wasn't sure what size it was, so I looked it up. It says you take one 1/2 yd off the bolt, which is 18" by 44". You cut that in half and you have a cut 18" x 22". That is a FAT. So if they are selling a Fat quarter, you are getting a piece of material that is 18" x 22".
Hope that helps!

Fat quarters are 18" by 22" pieces of fabric. They were developed for quilters. They also come in very handy if you need a small amount of fabric, and don't want to buy off of a bolt. Of course if you all are anything like me, you have a store in your closet, or basement. Oh well. That is what makes us fabriholics. Right, I don't think that is a word, but oh well. I am what I am and noone can change that.

Actually fat quarters aren't just for quilting. I make teddy bears and they are now offering "fat quarters" for bear making fabric. So, a fat quarter is a half yard of fabric that is cut in half again so that you have a larger section of fabric to work with.
