What is wrong with some people?

United States
March 16, 2007 1:56pm CST
A woman known as the Cat Lady by her neighbors has told police she has killed about 650 cats and dogs over the last few years. She was even being brought animals by people who thought she would take care of them. This sure seems like a lot of deception on her part just so she can kill animals. Here is the url for the complete story. http://www.columbusdispatch.com/news-story.php?story=253394 What do you think is wrong with this lady?

I think she has more wrong with her than just being bipolar. If she thought she was "saving" the animals from the "animal welfare system"; can you imagine what would happen if she decided to start "saving" people and children from our welfare system!

The kind of "saving" of people you fear is talked about at the extreme edges of some political movements within tryanical governments. Be thankful we don't live in a third world country.

Yes, you are absolutely right about serial killers starting out with animals. I was thinking political because of the word "saving" as in what politicians think they are doing. "Saving" us from ourselves. It makes more sense this women is a potential serial killer as opposed to a potential power hungry despot dictator, for sure. Thanks.

I know; but, they do say that most serial killers start by abusing animals and if this woman is that "warped" mentally, it could happen. I have read stories of mentally ill people who thought they HAD to kill people. To me this story is a wake up call to the professionals out there who will be dealing with her case. If they don't take further action; people could be next.

*sigh* It has to be Ohio.. I think there are some freaking crazy people here who do stuff to animals. We just had something like that happen a few weeks ago here and I cannot understand it. I think these people should face maximum cruelty charges and fines and be labeled as some kind of predator.. its way out of control and ridiculous.

I'm thinking she is likely to get fined, suspended jail time, and court ordered mental health treatment.

She is sick for sure, if she really did that. She should be locked away forever.

As a criminal offense she could not get "life", but you are right that if she is mentally ill, she could be locked up and if she never gets better, be locked up for "life".

She must have had too much time on her hands. Think of all the time and effort involved. It's not like she lived out in the country where the killing and disposal would be effortless.

This is absolutely horrible and I would love to stick her in a cage and drown her. My question is, how did the shelter not question how she managed to take in 150 animals in such a short period? Didn't they ever question her what happened to the other animals? I think shelters need to do more checking up on prospective pet parents.

I'm sure the publicity from this story will result in shelters being much more careful.

I think she is mental (Like the article says)and sick minded.Anyone that gets thier jollies form killing animimals and people even kids are sick.I feel sorry for all the cats.Killing animals for fun is fluent in worlds proabbly more than people know. They sem to have no respect for anything.I could not harm an animal not even a person.I couldnt even go hunting for a deer and shoot it for I feel sorry for it.I know sometimes I like to eat the meet .But I couldnt will myself to kill it.The hunters would definiteley not want me going hunting with them.LOL.I heard something similar to this in are state and near are county. The people took in stray cats, dog, horses, ect, and said they were a no kill Animal Shelter.Well we took aere dog to them because I felt that a apartment was not a place for our dog to be in.It said no kill shelter and the owners seemed really nice lived in a nice house, had alot of land for animals to run, even had little kids.Which the little one took up with the dog we took to them. And we honstly thought that it was a good shelter just probably like alot of people thought taking their cats to the lady was safe.Well about a year later we heard on the news where they had got in ouble and all of the animlas were turned over to the animal shelter and some had to be left their but the people were not aloud to go near the animals only the volunteers and the animal shelter personel. They had been ound to be starving animals and beating them ,whether it was the owners or the people that helped them.Thankfully are dog when the animal shelter personel came to take away animals little at a time she was okay and someone took her home to a good home. She had babies and they found good homes to.I am not saying that everyone is bad and killl animals when they take them but sometimes I think we have tio be very careful who we intrust with animals. Also I think the animal Shelters personel should get someone to go and check every 2 months and see if the animals are being taken care of.

The problem for the animal shelters is lack of funding. This keeps them from doing many things they would like to do.

I could not read this entire discussion. I must stop thinking about it! This is another one of those I can not tell my girl about! I feel so bad for the suffering those animals went through! I hope that lady gets some help and that any remaining animals on her property got saved!

I knew I should have skipped this one red!! Anybody that can do that to defenceless animals needs DRAMATIC help!! What happens when the supply of animals runs out??? Does she start on anyone that is an easy target?? That behaviour sends warning bells ringing fight down my spine! Never mind suspended sentences, go straight to jail...do not collect $200... and bring in the "white coats"! Have a good day red!

Yes, I too fear this woman might make the jump from killing animals to killing people.

What a sicko, at least she did get found out, and is not doing it still. I hope she gets locked up and they throw the key away until proven sane beyond any reasonable doubt. That read like a horror story, except it was worse, it was real. Just another one of those you wish was on another planet with no air. Now, there's a possible commercial application for returning to the Moon with business in tow, 'Moonbase Mental', 'A happy (unescapable) reitirement home (prison) for sicko's.'

"Moonbase Mental" where everybody is looney on luna. Hmmm... given the most recent notable astronaunt story here in the USA, you don't suppose they have secretly already started such a program?

A Lisa Nowak nappy - This is an image of a nappy supposedly left behind (ha ha) by Lisa Nowak.
Now, that's scary too. I wouldn't want to be on a spaceship with a fruitloop. Shades of 2001.

This is a horrible story. Obviously this woman has serious mental problems. I had a friend who was diagnosed as bipolar and they do bizarre things when they are not on medication but this is the worst I've ever heard. You do have to wonder about these shelters and animal rescue types that gave the animals to her. From my experience with my friend, seriously bipolar people not taking their medication certainly do not ever appear normal. So, if this diagnosis is correct, what was wrong with these other folks?

Bipolar is a funny thing. Some of them when they are manic actually achieve notable accomplishment. If this is in combination with a depressive phase that does not go correspondingly low, they can become rich and famous.

Drowning them is not humane. Even so, she lied about what she was doing with them. I'm sure people wouldn't have taken animals to her if htey had known. I think it's awful.

This is a very sad story. I can only imagine how scared those animals were. What I don't understand is why nobody checked on her story.I would have looked up her animal rescue group.

Probably nobody checked on her story as they were so glad to have someone take the animals off their hands they did not want to take a chance she was not legit.
