I started reading to my kids before they were born.I would sit in my rocking chair reading my favorite nursery rhymes and poems to my belly. When my son was an infant, and I was in college I would read out loud from my homework assignments- even if they weren't stories! Just listening to your voice is calming & soothing for children. If you make it a habit now, reading every day, your child is more likely to develop a love of reading that lasts for her life.

Good for you! You could start reading to them while they are still in your tummy if you wanted. They say that it soothes the baby to hear the mother or fathers voice. Reading and music are both good for learning and development. I don't think one is truely better than the other. They both have their benafits. Go right ahead, she isn't too young. She can only learn from it.

You can start reading to your child at any age. Even newborns enjoy books. By starting reading to them early they see that it is fun and will be more apt to reading and enjoying it later on.

I try to read to my son 2 hours a day. If we dont READ books, i tell him stories, though he always asks where my book is lol. I try to tell him that mommy knows the story in her head, but he dosent udnerstand, hes only 2. Start reading as early as you can. It encourages imagination, gives them ideas, teaches things. Even if its picture books and just point out whats going on in them. Children love to hear the sound of your voice when little and when they can understand what you are talking about, they love the stories too.

It is never to early to start reading to your child. I read a minimum of two books to my children a day. I also set up a rule from a very young age. Whenever my children bring me a book I drop everything to read to them, and they know that, if they need attention they can get it without acting up. Reading is one of the best things you can possibly do for your children.

I sterted reading to my daughter before she was even born!! I just wanted her to love reading as much as I do! I would read to her when she was really little, just during tummy time on the floor or whatever! And she loves to read now at 6!! My little boy is totally different though, he won't stay still long enough for me to read one page let alone a whole book, so I try and read to them while they are in the bathtub...he can't run away then!!

I started reading to my first son at a couple months, my second son sits in my lap wile I rad to his brother since birth. I think children should be raised around reading so they can grow to enjoy it and understand how important it is.

Reading to your child at any age is truly beneficial. It does not even matter what it is that you read to them - more the tone of your voice when they are still infants. I do reccommend chunky board books for a 10 month old though. She probably will want to hold the book too and help turn the pages. If she doesnt want you to read she may just want to hold the book and look at the pictures which is just fine too. You should play music to her when she is awake too. It teaches children rythm.
