How many dialects can you speak in the Philippines? I know there are many differents yet I need to discover. So the dialects that I know how to speak is Tagalog, Bikol very well and fluently. But I am willing to learn to speak Cebuano. One dialect I find difficult to learn is Kapampangan which I do believe is unique from most of the dialects from the Philippines.

Most Filipinos are fluent in at least two dialects. This is because we speak the dialect where we are located or grew up plus tagalog. It appears that it will help greatly if we can speak tagalog as the schools are propagating it. This therefore, makes tagalog as a commonly spoken tongue among us.

Hi bluemestizo. I speak fluent Ilonggo. I also speak Tagalog/ Filipino, that being our national language. I also know a little Karay-a, because my mom is from Capiz. Indeed there are a lot of languages to discover in our country. I have learned that there are like 90 languages in the Philippines, and how little I have discovered! Like you, I am also willing to learn Cebuano. I just recently went to Davao and Cebu, and the people speak Cebuano. It would be nice to learn the language. I better buy a dictionary....:D

I can only speak Tagalog and Cebuano. I find it hard to adopt other Philippine dialects. I don't travel out here in Cebu so no wonder why I don't speak any other dialects. But I know some words from other dialects but only few to mention.

Every dialect in Philippines have uniqueness on their own. I lived in the melting pot of the Philippines in Mindanao (I believed)I learned my Ilocano from my dad and classmates in higschool, my Iloggo and Kinaray-a from my grandparents and classmates in college. I can now fluently speak Bisaya (Cebuano). Now am learning fast in Waray. So all in all I can speak 6 dialects plus Tagalog. If you know how to speak Bisaya, Ilonggo and Tagalaog its easy now for you to learn Bahasa Malayo. I found it the mixed-up dialects in Philippines.

I speak two languages in the Philippines (Bicol and Tagalog). By the way, they are not dialects because they are not derivatives of any languages. A dialect is a variation of a language (e.g. Bicol has spawned to various dialects - partido, tiwi, camalig, sorsogon, etc. - all can trace their roots in Bicol-Naga or Legazpi). But all these dialects can understand each other. So Buhi and Rinconanda area have their own distinct languages because I can hardly understand a native speaker from these areas. Entonces, once you don't undertand one form of communication from yours, then that form of communication is a language, not a dialect. Another example is Tagalog. Tagalog has many dialects in the tagalog regions; laguna, batangas, bulacan, cavite, rizal, and ncr; but people from this region can understand each other.
