Of the thirty-eight billion reasons I've counted (so far) NOT to have children, this ranks right up there in the No. 1 spot. :P
Can you say, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUCHHHHH! WHERE'S THE FREAKIN' EPIDURAL!!!??" boys and girls? I knew you could. ;)
If I gave birth to a child that big, it had better already have a medical license or law degree and immediately start to provide for me in the manner to which I've become accustomed. ;)

Twelve pound, 3 ounce?
OUCH.
My first was 9 lb, 3oz, and I had an episiomity (sp) with her, some gas, and a shot of pethidine.
The second was 8 lb 9 oz, and I had gas with her.
The last (notice LAST) was 7 lb 14 oz, and I had a little bit of gas - not much.
Hubby would say something mean & nasty about someone who can have that big a baby with no painkillers, but we must remember, it is designed to stretch to allow things out.

Wow BEL you passed through some "not so small" ones too! lol The good old gas hey! I never knew till later down the track that they had actually switched off the gas while giving birth to my first as they thought I had had more than my fair share! Oh the power of the mind! lol

My first one was 10 pounds 14 ounces, he was huge. I couldn't imagine a twelve pounder. There are alot of things that you wouldn't think about when you have a big baby, like they don't really fit in newborn sizes of anything, they don't fit in newborn diapers, (mine wore a size one right out of the womb), they grow out of things much quicker, swings, carseats, carriers. It can be quite frustrating. We bought a travel swing for my oldest, by the time he could support his head and sit up in it correctly, he weighed too much for it. *sigh* He outgrew his carseat very quickly as well. My second one we took early, as we were trying to avoid a huge baby, and I was very uncomfortable. He came out at 9 pounds even.

Quite funny really when you think about it as I had a premmie second time around and the smallest size then was a OO so ended up buying clothes from the dolls shop, now they have so many smaller sizes. There was one baby in the special care nursery that was over 10lb. (he was jaunticed) and he looked so big compared to our little ones! lol
Even your second one was not small but glad all turned out well for you!

I've been told if you're diabetic sometimes the baby is a big baby. I knew a lady that told me she was 10 pounds when she was born and both her and the mom was diabetic. I'm sure that doesn't always happen though. I just can't imagine. My daughter was 7lbs 1 1/2oz. and that was big enough. I agree with you caramello...ouch!...

I could not agree more Grandmaof2 that 7+ pounders are big enough! As I have said my first was "feet first" but kind of glad he was not full term as they did say he could of been around 9lb. Double ouch! lol

Wow, I am surprised she could have a baby that big naturally, especially without any complications!! Mine were bad enough at 7 lbs.

Yes I have to agree with you Thoroughrob 7 + pounders is the best I could do first time around! There was a complication as he became "stuck" (can you believe that!) And one of his arms has suffered but with physio. he will be fine!

My biggest baby was 8lb6oz and I tore giving birth to her so I can't imagine what it would be like with a baby over 12lbs. Well done to your friend, she did really well, they will both be much healthier because she choose to do it without painkillers.

My first was 7lb.7oz. and from what I remember that was no easy task, but he was entering feet first (little bugger!) lol and I was "cut" but I cannot begin to imagine giving birth to one this size, but she did very well I say!

Lol.
My 4'9 grammy had a 14 lb son and a 12 lb son, smallest of her 8 was 10 lbs lol.
I had a 10 lber myself, and the lady in the room next to me the night i had my son, her son was 11.8. My baby wasnt natural, they had to use vaccume extraction cus of his position. But my grammies were. A womans body is capable of some amazing things huh :) Im pregnant again, and im hoping for an 8 lb baby, normal type size, but based on family history... this one will probably be over 11 lbs lol.

YOu know weight has very little to do with how difficult a baby coming out is. Its actually head circumfrance. The head is bone and dsent flex much. But the rest of the body is soft and squishable lol. It will slide out, no matter the size.
Plus with a big baby use gravity as your tool. Be upright and the babys weight works FOR you.
