What do you think about kids wearing 2 piece bathing suits?

I always see these kids running around wearing little 2 piece bathing suits, and have always wondered to myself why we would allow them to do that. My wife on the other hand does not really have a problem with it, because we're watching out for our kids, etc. I just think that when they are that young, it's probably not a good idea. Not only are there a lot of crazy people out there, but I think that kids learn certain things, like how they should dress, etc...at a young age, and it continues through to adulthood. I'd love to know what you guys think...This sounds to me like a great debate...Make your case.

i never really thought of this before, i never let my young daughter wear any revealing clothes, like belly shirts, really short shorts or skirts. but i do let her wear a bikini. i think that it's just cause it's not every day wear and it's not like she's going to go shopping in it or to church or something. wearing a bikini is appropriate wear for a beach where it's hot and she's swimming. i think it's just cause as long as they wear these revealing clothes appropriate places it makes it a little more acceptible. bikini's are different then say wearing a shirt that shows your belly at the store cuase those clothes and that place is inapropriate. approprate clothes for appropriate places is how i look at it i guess.

for me, it depends on the kid's age.
i bought a 2-pc bathing suit for my 21-month old daughter. it just looks so adorable on her. i think i'll let her wear a 2-pc bathing suit until she's around 2 or 3. beyond that, she'll have to wear a 1-pc suit or cover up.

I don't see what the big deal of a 2 peice baithing suit is, as long as all the crutial parts are covered up. Yes Young girls should be taught about body respect, and that there are sicko perverts in the world, but should we be giving the cue to girls that are already at risk of having a negative body image the idea that they have to completely cover up? Not with that said I don't think skimpy little two pwice baithing suits are a good idea, no matter how young or old you are, but my daughter wears a 2 peice that is more like shorts and a belly shirt rather than a skimpy barely there 2 peice. It is tasteful, yet reserved. And I for one am happy that she can feel good, not restricted and doesn't have to worry about finding a one peice that is long enough in the body for her, because if it isn't then it crawls up and is likely not very comfortable.

My daughter is 2 and has a bikini. It has shorts on the bottom and a large, tank-type shirt for the top that leaves her belly exposed. I don't have a problem with this....what I have a problem with is eight year olds running around in string bikinis.
Two piece bathing suits can actually be more hygenic, as it offers greater air flow to the skin. When my daughter was one we spent the whole day at the beach and she got a rash on her stomach due to sand and lakewater rubbing her skin. Either way it is up to the parent.
Oh, and I am not surprised that you are weary about it! My husband wasn't to happy about putting his little girl in a bikini either. I think it is a daddy's perogative to try to cover his daughter up as much as necessary:)

I personally do not see a problem with it. I understand your point of view. I also think that as long as a child is taught when certain dress is appropriate and not appropriate then it shouldnt be a problem. However I do agree that certain two-piece bathing suits that are out there should not be worn by underage children.

ok I have 3 daughters and I allow them to wear two piece suits but not risque suits more like takinis or the ones with the skirt bottoms and halter tie tops. I can see where in public or a church function you would want a child to be in a one piece but honestly you cant expect a child not to want to dress like the other kids. ( with in reason)

My daughter has always worn a bikini weather we are swimming at home, a friends or a local pool. I don't see anything wrong with it, I am not putting her in it and parading her around the neighborhood for everyone to see. It is just something you wear when you go swimming. Nothing more.

I do believe that attitude is developed from childhood. If we raise our kids to be decent looking people they'll grow up like what we expect them to be. We should never dress our kids like they're already grown ups. Let kids be kids. Another thing is, don't let our children watch so much television because they'll see so much from that and learn things even the bad ones. Imagine a 7 year old girl wearing lots of make up and a tight fitting dress and is backless. And our children thought that it's alright since others are doing that.

with child molestation being at such a rise these days, who just dont know who to trust. I would feel protective if my baby would be in a 2 piece bathing suit, i know its kinda taking away their childhood but its better to be safe than sorry.

i think that children have more right to wear a 2 piece bathing suit! for one, they are still innocent... and take note its more comfortable. i mean they're kids, their is nothing wrong with that. when they grow up, they'll eventually have the final decision to continue wearing it or not.. :))

i think that those children which are using two piece bathing suit are just kids at all. if you think that it is malicious for them to wear those kind of suits, but come to think of it that they are just kids that are having fun at the pool.

I won't change my way of doing things because of a couple of sick perverts who may be around. My kids and I talk and they know that they should run from strangers and that if anything, God forbid, happens to them, they can come to my husband or me with no possiblity of shame or riducule and I will take care of the person responsible. 2 piece bathing suits on a toddler are in no way provocative for a normal person. Cute is the only word that should come from an adult's lips about a toddler in a 2 piece. Furthermore, they aren't wearing thongs or tops that show anything. It's just a bathing suit. Now I do draw the line at my 9 year old trying to dress like Brittney Spears. I will not let them go trashy. But I see not problem with a 2 piece bathing suit. Just make sure you put sunscreen on their little tummies.

modest two piece swimsuits for girls can be convienient, cuz when they have to go pee pee they don't have to peel off the entire wet sticky suit. if they don't take off the entire wet sticky suit fast enough, they don't pee in the right place and face embarrassment. i didn't learn the joys of the two piece until much later but for much different reasons.

I think it's ridiculous for little girls to wear a bikini. I remember when my (older) sister was about 8 years old and she wore a bikini. It made me feel odd that she would want to show off her body when there was obviously nothing to show off in the first place! LOL I personally don't care for bikini's and in my opinion little girls certainly do not need to wear this type of bathing suit.

My mother did not let me wear a two piece after I was 3 years old. I don't think there is anything wrong with it if the bathing suit is obviously a child's suit. It needs to be cut very modestly and maybe just have a little strip of skin exposed in the belly. The problem that I have seen lately at the pool is little girls wearing miniature versions of adult swimsuits. It seems like that could be a problem if there are any sicko's around. I just think you should not try to make your child look sexy. They should look like a kid. If you cannot find a 2 piece that looks child-like and appropriate, have them wear a 1 piece. I think children should NEVER wear bikinis.
Good Topic!
