or do you prefer it to have the "lived in" look.
Personally, I think people can be neat freaks and it sometimes gets out of hand.
It gets to the point that your family is just not comfortable, because they might mess something up. Why would you want to have special rooms that has to be kept for "good" and nobody is allowed in there? What a waste of space. You should enjoy what you have and use it while you can
It does not mean your place has to be a mess, but so what if there are a few cushions, or newspapers laying around?
Are you a bit of a neat freak or do you like your home to have a bit of a "lived it look."

LOL my hsuband could very easily get out of hand if I were to let him LOL but I can't, won't and pretty much never will have an immaculate home....I mean never mind the fact that I have 2 kids and 6 pets (which of course is a big factor LOL) but also I dont want my house to look like Monk lives here ya know....I have a house of love and laughter and yes its cluttered at times but its also very warm and comforting....I get all bent out of shape goin into a neat freaks house....I'm afraid to move, sit, stand, breathe LOL

To be honest I hate housework. I do try to keep my huose clean and tidy but my house is definitely a "lived in" house. My desk currently has a few photographs on it, an old mug with some pens and a bit of clutter underneath.

I prefer my home to be lived in, but I don't like having it cluttered all the time. I can get it "clean" to where I'm ok with company coming over, then I take a picture of someone and realize all the junk that's piled up all over the place. I've been trying to get things put away and decluttered, but most of the stuff is DH's and I can't get him to deal with it. I'd toss it out, but there's a lot of important and expensive stuff that he'd just replace and we don't have the money for that. I'd love to be able to just straighten up at the end of the day and have the house look great. :)

I am a clean and neat freak especially when it comes to floors. In our apartment unit there's only my husband and me so it's real easy to maintain the cleanliness and tidiness. When we have children in the near future, it wouldn't be messy cos they will be brought up in a neat environment....trained well.

I am a reformed neat freak or anal retentive. I used to vacuum every night when I came home from work because we left footprints on the carpet on our way out the door. I took the cure when I became a mom. I washed my baby so much I gave him a rash, I rushed him to the doctor and he said "How often do you bathe him?" I said "Every time he gets dirty" and he said "Knock it off!" I followed the poor boy around picking up the tinker toys he had scattered, when he was just looking for that one special piece to pull the whole project together. One day a leaf fell off a house plant and landed on my spotless carpet, I decided right then to leave it until it disappeared on it's own. It took months. I vacuumed around it, finally one day it was gone. *Poof* If I could have back all the time I wasted on things like scrubbing my grout every week to spend with my child I'd gladly live for the next year at the city dump.

I cant stand my home looking like it belongs in a museum. I have 4 kids 3 of which live with me and they make messes like you wouldent believe. I prefer the lived in look that way people are more comfortable when they come over that they dont feel like they are walking on egg shells and ha ve to be extra cautious.

I like a loved in look and i also like clutter but just not dirt. I'll pile the books that don't fit on the shelves on the floor with impunity. But I'll pick the books up from time to time, vacuum the floor underneath and then pile them all back.
You posting here reminded me of an incident that occurred back when I worked for an interior designer. Our company installed a new living room in a client's home. When the boss went back to give her a little housewarming gift, he found she had one of those ropes on a pole they use in movie theaters across the entrance. She wasn't planning on letting anyone even enter the room. LOL

My house is just a bit beyond the 'lived in' look. We write messages to each other in the dust but the floors are somewhat clean although I wouldn't eat off of em. lol My house is decorated 'garage sale' era. I have my family trained to pick up after themselves so all I gotta do really is pick up after the animals. Now if I could teach them how to put their toys away....

Right now my house has the lived in look because I have a 2yr old and a 1yr old and am due in Oct. with the next one. I just don't have the energy to keep up with it all. As long as my kitchen and living room and hallway are clean I am satisfied because no one can see the rest of the house. I am trying to get on top of it and get some routines established so that it is not so hectic. I also had a timer that I was using with the flylady system until my oldest broke it and now hubby has to go get me another one. Hopefully I can get it all together before the baby comes.

My home definitely has the lived in look. With clothes strewed all over, mail on the floor and dogs toys all over the rooms. Not that I am a pig or anything some things just seems to have a place where they do not belong.

I am only a neat freak when I know that I am having guests come over for a special occasion or just to hang out. It doesn't bother me if they mess things up though. When I am alone, my house is clean but not overly clean. The lived in look is more common for me since I live alone. My last roommate was a neat freak and it was annoying at times. You couldn't sneeze without him complaining.

Yeeeah. Probably not. I got some things laying here and there. So, it is not dirty, but probably not TOO clean. I do not know about this "lived in" look but I would say I do not clean every day. Probably, 2 or 3 times a week.... Maybe.

I am a very big neat freak. Everything has it's place. Although, as you said, I don't understand why people have to have the furniture or items that "are for looks". It doesn't make sense to me either. Everything in my home is functional. My fiance says I am not nearly as bad as I used to be. My house used to be so clean it was almost clinical! Now, it is just tidy.
