If the teen is into horses, then the Farley, Black Stallion books. Hinkle's western horse books are also good. I remember loving a horse book called "Jellyfoot" when I was a teen, but I haven't been able to find it since then. I didn't like the Henry Misty book as much when I was a kid as I did one I found recently - but that's probably just me, I don't like trying to wade thru people trying to write accents.

The Harry Potter books are really popular. I don't know if these still are, but I used to love The Babysitters Club. There's also the Gossip Girl series, but those are more for older teens. And then there's the A-list novels. I'm not really sure what those are about but I know they are geared towards older teen girls. That's pretty much all I can think of.

I know Tamora Pierce books are good, Harry Potter series, um.... A Series of Unfortunate Events. Wow... Let me think some more. Let's see, if they're older teens then Anne McCaffery's Pern books are good. I love them. If they're into horror, some of R.L.Stine's books are centered for teens. There's always the Eragon and Eldest book. The third of that book should be out soon.
Geez... I wish I could think of more. I hope these help though.

Jacqueline Wilson books are very popular in this country. I read a couple as I wanted to see if they would be suitable for my daughter. They deal with grown up issues so will be better when she is older. These books seem to be read by children aged about 9 to 12.
