It seems to me that you are assuming that they are worshipping the statues. I don't see them bowing or praying at statues as worshipping. I personally see the statues as places to kneel and pray and THINK of God and and pray to God. The statues are sort of like a tool, one to help you focus on God so you can effectively pray. How that is worshipping statues, I do not know.

The statues in the church are only a point of focus for meditation and prayer. It only becomes idolatry if you worship the statue and not the idea it represents. I am a Buddhist and in our Wat we have several Buddha images but we do not worship them. They are only reminders of the Buddhist teachings.

Some would say it's "idolatry" but it's also a very ancient traditional practice of the Christian religion. Orthodox practice is much the same.
The patron saints and other images all fit into the broad spectrum of Christian belief. It's not "idol worship" as such, because it's based on the essential principles of Christian belief. The saints, for example, are exponents of Christianity, by their works and lives. Mary is a pillar of the belief system, and revered for her role in Christianity. In both cases they fit into the moral principles of the beliefs, and are used as examples of practical Christianity. None of these images are (or were) intended to be seen as "gods". That's the real difference; you're not actually worshipping the images, but the facets of Christian belief they epitomize.

Yes it is idolatry,it is written in the bible.I am also a catholic but i dont practice it anymore.No matter how good you have done will be in vain if what you are practicing is against the will of God.Read the bible and it says if the taga-akay or the one who is followed is blind,then the follower is also blind and both of them will fall to the pit or hukay in tagalog.Do you know that Peter did not come to Rome,how will he be a pope,it is an invention of the catholics.Jesus assign Peter to the Jews to be its leader and Paul is assign to the Gentiles to be its leader.Rome is a Gentile nation and so is the rest of the countries except Israel.Do you get what im trying to say,Peter will never be a pope because his assignment is Israel.Paul should be the logical choice to be a pope because his assignment is the Gentiles. But thcatholics never make him a pope. Catholicsm is a big lie.For give me but its the truth.Read the bible and never be deceived again.

Idolatry is replacing the real God by worshipping other things than He. God forbids the worship of such because He's a jealous God. He condemns it because He created humans in order to worship and glorify Him. God is spirit so we must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

It sounds to me like your God is on an ego trip.

I am a Christian and this is what I believe because it is written in the Bible. And you will answer all what you're saying to our God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
"Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to Whom we must give account." - Hebrews 4:13

I am not a Christian so I don't think I will have to answer to your God.
"By oneself is evil done,
By oneself is one defiled:
By oneself is evil left undone'
By oneself is one purified;
Purity and impurity depend on oneself;
No one can purify another."
(Dhammapada)
By my beliefs I am answerable to my self, your God will not judge me. I must judge myself.

It is not idolatry.
Let me explain to you why. The statues are merely representation visually of what you worship. Worshipping the piece of ceramic is way different than worshipping what is represents.
Certainly many revere the American flag to a point that is almost ridiculous. Are they worshipping a piece of cloth? Most would disagree that they were. They would tell you it represents the country they love.
As an aside I was raised Catholic but am now pagan, and I still do not worship any little trinket on my altar. They are merely representations to help focus the mind.

I don't know more about this, because I am not a religious person. I was baptized as Catholic, but I am now a Christian. And I think it is because, it's a practice that most of us have grown up believing to.
As for me, I never worship or keep some of those images and statues. Because it is completely stated and written in the Law that Moses have given to us, the Ten Commandments.
