Why do we use fictitious names in mylot????

As I have observed many people, or I would say majority of the people in mylot use proxy names and not their original names as their avatar..and that includes me. I have my reasons- I do not want to reveal my identity as many of my friends are here.
What about the others? Does everyone have the same reason?

I use mine for the convenience since it's the same or similar to what I use on other things. I also use it for the privacy factor. Not to many "real life" people know be by this name but my real name is uncommon enough they'd all know it was me if the came here and read anything I've written. I also have the problem that certain stereotypes are connected with my real name so I don't care to use it. I think my name here suits me better and gives people a better impression than my real name....and for future reference, "foxy" was meant to be an adjective, "fire" was the original name, but most people shorten it and call me "foxy" which is ok too.

Mine too is something similar.. I was reading a book "Word Power Made Easy" by Norman Lewis when my friend told me about mylot.. finding no better name i put the name of the book as my avatar!! It has nothing absolutely to do with me or my personality.

Many here know my first name as I respond with it a lotin my responses. The name I use here refers to the name I use on AOL and have for 17 years now. I've used many variations which start with "WEBE" Seeing it's been so long with this type of moniker I stuck with it here also. Thanks for the discussion also.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

Yes, like you I don't to be recognized by people who knows me in real life, this way I can be honest and open about everything, some people who i know offline don't know much about me and I don't want them to know much about me, if they find me here and go through my posts and discussions they will know more than I want them to tell.. but I have one friend/relative who referred me and we both have no problem reading each other posts as we know much about each other already :)
