Do you use the double broiler beneath your stove???

I know this sounds like a crazy question, but I am curious about how many people actually use the broiler on the bottom part of the stove. I ask this because I cook every night and in 6 years at my house, I have yet to even OPEN the broiler down below. My mom uses hers but only to put pans in. Do you use yours, and if so what do you cook there most often?

I use my broiler pretty regularly actually. I use it to quickly crisp/brown items like pizza, potato wedges, or garlic bread.

Oh! I hadn't thought about doing fries in them, but your comment set my mind working. I always think that oven fries aren't crispy enough, now I know how to fix it. Thanks!

Thanks, I never even knew WHAT was supposed to be cooked there and why..lol. I thought it cooked stuff slower not faster. I new that it heated from the top instead of the bottom like in the oven but thats it. Thanks again

The only thing that I have ever used mine for is broiling steaks. Other than that, I can't think of anything that needs to be cooked that hot & that fast.

Hi nascar_girl, i have an oven beneath my stove. I didn't know there's a broiler ever under a stove! Is this an american thing? I use my oven for everything. Pizza, muffins, cakes, fish, meats, breads, etc... When i'm not cooking, i store pans and baking trays in them. - Lyn

Im not sure if its only an American thing. But we have the stove top (burners) the oven and then below that we have a double broiler just beneath the oven. Most people use it to store pans in, but after a couple of suggestions here, I plan to try my french fries in it soon.

Holy cats! Now you have me confused... I thought that was a warming drawer. I've never used it for anything but a place to store pizza pans and baking sheets. I know there's a control knob for it... but it has never been on. Then again, maybe we have different ovens-- mine has a broiler element at the top... you put stuff in on the TOP shelf in the oven and turn it to "broil." But I rarely do that, either-- it just goes into the toaster oven, instead.

I use mine for steaks, bread, and anything that needs to have melted cheese on top. The only thing i dislike is that I basically haev to sit on the floor to watch the food, lol! My old place just had a regular broiler that worked from the top of the oven, not the bottom.
