please help! i have a sleeping problem. how many hours should one sleep? i don't think 8-hours of sleep would be good for me because i have too much activities during my wake up time. I work at night, so i don't really have normal sleeping habits. i've tried doing 8-hours but it affects my schedule a lot. i tried sleeping for more than 8-hours during weekends to compensate but i get head aches. i've tried power naps, but how long are power naps supposed to be? an hour? two hours? please help! i would really appreciate any advice from you! thanks!

Since you're working at night,it is not that scarry or curious that u're having sleeping problems.secondly,i suppose u have a lot of things on your mind, otherwise u should have get used to this sleeping programm.I don't want to be unpolite, but my advice would be to try to think about your life, about what u want and what u have, about the people around u...who knows?maybe it's time for a change!...in case there's not...my best advice is a scotish shower and a herb tea...good luck!

the scotish shower is cold water combined with hot water;let's say ,after u're done with the practical aspects of the shower...:P...u just enjoy 3minutes of Hot water, two minutes of cold water...of course,as cold and as hot as u can support... a lime tea it's the best for a good sleep...something else that u could try is thinking about every part of your body while you're laying in bed...try to feel if there's tension somewhere...like in the way u chosed to put your hand or your hand...try to "re-arrange" yourself...

Sleep for 23 hours. ^_^ Jk. I usually sleep 12 hours on the weekends to make up. 8 hours is the standard sleep time. If you get more than that, that's awesome.

According to studies, one should sleep 7-8 hours a day. If you need to sleep more, then add another hour or two. I too have a sleeping problem. I have trouble falling asleep at night and don't finally rest until 12 or 1 AM in the morning. Now that's bad, especially since I have to wake up at 6 AM. Power naps should be 30 minutes to an hour. I don't think it matters how long it should be, but I don't recommend it for more than 2 hours. Hopes this helps!

Idealy I think you should sleep about 8hrs per day but if you can't do it because you have to work night shift then you should really have some nap when you can. For me if I have dificulty sleeping night tiem then I'll have anap the next day, but because I have a little boy so I do it the same time he does so probably about one hour it really helps you know.. Well I hope you can find some kind of solution from this discussion..good luck...xx

aren't you missing 50% of your life then? just a thought. that's actually one of the reasons why i don't sleep for 8 hours, i don't want to miss a third of my life. hehehe!

i also have different shift, there are times that i work at night, and getting all the sleep i wanted during the day is hard. and we all know that we should at least get 8 hours of sleep everyday.. but for me, i do cat naps whenever i have the oppurtunity to do it..cat naps takes only 5 to 10 minutes but already equivalent to 4 hours of sleep. when doing that, make sure youre so relax, take away any problem on mind...be on the comfortable position..then take some sleep... hope this helps.

Though they say that 8 is good, I think they are referring to it as the maximum time of sleep that a person or individual should attain. I guess 6 to 7 hours is enough for a good day's rest, especially to those who has busy work schedules. A balance diet and proper body maintenance would help us more, health is also included in that factor..

I am an insomiac so i really dont have a continously 8hours when i got a sleep.. Sometimes, i do have 5 to6hours per sleep and then when i get sleepy by afternoon, ill sleep then its usually takes for about 3hours so im having approximately 8 to 9hours a day "sometimes"..

My work just recently changed my hours, so now I have to get up at 4 in the morning. My wife works into the evening so I find myself getting everyone supper, cleaned and ready for bed and when I'm done I'm exhausted. But I don't go to bed. I need some winding down time, and also I like to see my wife for at least a little while before bedtime. So by the time I get to bed its going on 10:30 - 11:00 and I'm getting 5 or 5 1/2 hours sleep. By the weekend I'm a zombie and pretty crusty but I hate sleeping my weekend away so I never do any catching up on my sleep.

I guess you only need around 5 hours of sleep. That's how much sleep I usually get when I was in school. Also, I thin to much sleep is bad for you. 8-10 hours sleep only applies to growing children, I think.
