I don't have much experience of my own at this, we sometimes go out to eat (rarely), when we do we get our (nearly) three year old some fries, nuggets and a juice (we don't give her any gassy drinks). I think good eating habbits start since they're babies and if we don't get them used to eating a lot or any junk food, it helps them make the right choices as they get older. I don't know if there are parents out there that have given their children good eating habbits, but then the children as teanagers eat junk food all the time...

Well you really cannot stop them. I guess it is just a question of moderation because the more you stop them, the more they will rebel and eat behind your back. If not, try introducing junk foods that are better than other junk foods.

i dont buy it. i never buy them coke or sweets but when they get their pocketmoney they will often buy junk. i just tell them it is not good for their health or their teeth and skin. my son would prefer to buy himself a magazine or football cards with his pocketmoney than junk so i must be doing something right.as for meals they do eat a certain amount of processed foods but as a busy mum and worker i cant do a whole lot about it.

My kids know about healthy eating and why we need to eat lots of fruit and vegetables and why we don't eat a lot of fatty and sugary foods. I think that they are never to young to learn this basic stuff.

well i would tell them some horror story of what becomes of their body the next day if they will eat mcdonalds..lol
well i do not think we have much to do, the best is to give them healthy food at home and to hope they will like it better..they are children you won't start telling them they are not allowed to eat this and that when other children are eating that stuff..you'll end up with a child that in the moment he starts being an adult will start eating all the junk food he can because his parents did not let him do that when he was a child..you can not control and limit everything.

It is a bad habit but i do binge at times. Though i find it hard to control myself, i wouldn't want my children to binge. We made the decision to stop buying junk food 3 years ago. Even if we do buy, we make sure that they are the mini packets. No chunky kit kats and stuff.
For example, if he asks for the m&ms, i will say you can have it but only the yellows. And we will comb through the whole mini packet for only yellow m&ms. I don't believe that i should stop the treats completely, but i do try to curb excessive eating of junk food.

My son is only 19mths old, but from when he started eating food, we always gave him fruit to snack on and varied dinner each day. We do let him have the odd bit of chocolate now and then. but when he is hungry and points to the fridge, we give him some grapes to eat.
I though by starting him off on fruit straight away, he would be used to it rather than letting him eat sweets all the time and then in 4 or 5 years time trying to stop him from eating it. Best to start off as you mean to go on.

I just don't buy things I don't want them to eat. Once they have good daily habits, and if they are offered healthy food right from the start they will have healthy habits- occasionally having junk as a treat at a birthday party or at the movie theater isn't a big deal. It's all about moderation.
