Just read a report, a Russian General said that the United States is going to attack Iran on April 6. Possible? How, only by air force? The possible consequences? Any more comments?

That's way too fast! I know they're going to spark a war sooner or later, but this soon? Oh, I heard about the news of British sailors being detained too. If it really comes to that, the world will really be plunged into a terrible crisis. Oil prices will soar, the dollar depreciates, rising might of China ( which is good ) and thousands of lives will be lost. Why? Consider this: - Suppose US attacks Iran, they'll face hell. Iran has a respectable arsenal of missiles, and the Revolutionary Guard is a force to be reckoned with. They could easily strike Israel because it's within range. - US's troops are already facing a quagmire in Iraq. If they involve themselves in another war, they'll be doomed. Al-Qaeda could take the opportunity to recruit more bombers and infinitely cripple the US military might. It's possible US will strike with air superiority first. If war happens, the first target would be Natanz nuke facility. Oh, I shudder to think about it. Let's just hope it doesn't happen.

If the US wanted, it could destroy Iran entirely.. I feel like laughing on that childish comment. Good news is, the US fights fair .. That is really a very good news, the question is.. since when the US has started that practice and the change in policy? ....and would most likely have international support against Iran. Right!.. 1. we must keep in mind the phrase 'most likely' 2. the same way it had international support against Iraq, omitting the United Nations, the entire world was with the US, I hope I am not exaggerating. I personally shudder more at the threat of a nuclear Iran... Yes ofcourse, nuclear Iran or nuclear SaudiArabia or nuclear Serya or neclear Egypt or nuclear Bangladesh or neclear Morocco or nuclear any Islamic state is a threat to the world peace (Israel). So let us help Israel build as many nukes as possible to make them feel safer.

What is your rant about Naseem? You seem to be apoplectic and reasonably incoherent! What is the dosage of whatever you take?

Oh SHOOT..This doesn't bode well.Where did you get this report? The reercussions will be enormous. There will be oil prices skyrocketing again plus it will plunge the U.S economy into depression. If Europe gets involved then it will be even worse there will be a domino effect and Energy resources all over could be affected. Forget the loss of life and other calamities. I could write a list as long as my arm. The dollar is going to pots as it is. With this kind of new no one will want to invest in american markets..man are they that stupid or what? Already the iranians have taken some british soldiers into custody..that is going to spark a big international diplomatic row..It's getting worse and worse!!

I have already discussed and analysed this issue in general, offcourse with as much knowledge as i have (which though is little) in one of my posts. you can see it in detail here, http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/901444.aspx briefly, this report doesn't seem credible enough to be believed, atleast in current scenario. offcourse Iranian detention of britons have escalated the tentions and so have the alleged iranian prying in Iraq but two sides, including America and regional players, know that how perilous this war could become for not only the regional peace and stability but the whole world. There are drumming up of war beats everywhere. America did move stennis strike group into the Gulf, America did declare their second trigger for war, Iran did refuse to comply with the UNSC demand and deadline but all this doesn't really constitute the case for a war. We must take into account the political, economical and military position of America as well as Iran to analyse it in right perspective. Democrats won the elections on the basis for opposition to war and a promise with the people of America for troops withdrawal. though they have majority in congress but they still need public support to win 2008 presidential elections. they need to rally support for themselves which in these days is to oppose the war. Bush and Blair have suffered a lot politically in their home countries. they have lost credibility by the knowledge of manipulation of intelligence data. they can't now sell easily their idea now. American forces in the region are both the strong as well as the weak point for America. what comes next only depends on who strikes first. America have been trying, lately to cause Iran to move first by retaliation to some American provocations which, to date hasn't occured. Britain has already announced troops withdrawal. American senate has passed a bill with a call for Bush to get troops withdrawal started as early as within 120 and get them all back by march31,2008. Options for America are limited if not exhausted and they can't use these limited options without considering global consequences. American economy is feared to going down the road towards recession. with Iranian bourse announced and working, iran, malaysia completely opting out of dollar and china partially opting out, by giving away it's 200-300 billion dollars in reserves to be invested in euros and other financial programs, with the follow up of some other countries is surely going to pinch the dollar market. with that said, War is still possible and America has full capacity and might to do so but i have no doubt that it will be a blow to America as well. lastly, these are just my views and a brief analysis. every one has perfect right to disagree or totally disapprove of my idea.

Hi, Kamran! You have posted a very well researched and well thought out post. I completely agree with you! I have been realizing the toll the Iraq war has caused the US economy as well, and another war at this point will devastate it. There are other factors, too, such as the inability of Social Security to pay what it owes, but another war would be impossible to come back from. The US would never recover. It's too bad that Washington in general can't see that. Financial greats like Donald Trump see it, but that's a far cry from getting Bush to realize that he's pushed the economy farther than it can go.

I hope for peace, too. Unfortunately, Bush also neglected to read The Art of War - "Every battle is won before it is ever fought." He obviously didn't think past his own agenda and greed, evidenced by the fact that after four years, he has no exit strategy and there is no end to this travesty in sight. *sigh* If he decided to take on Iran, it will cause destruction everywhere in the middle east, but it will also finish the US economically. There's no way we could come back from that much debt.

Thanks for your appreciation. i agree that war is never good for anyone. there is lose lose situation. the problem with president bush is that he doesn't have the habit of calculating the consequences and which makes things sometimes harder to work out peacefully. i hope that every thing will be settled peacefully.

So it seems then that we are now in the habbit of sharing military secrets like this with foriegn nations? Not only the date of said attack but the specific time? This is very interesting. I spent a half hour pouring over news articals and blogs before posting in this thread and i couldnt find a SINGLE solid piece of information substantiating this statement. Only a the word of a retired Russian general is given as the basis for this story. With stories like this so prevelent in the world, it's no wonder the world sees us as they do. It's not that we do thses thing it's that the world is chomping at the bit to believe we do. I liken it to the high school mentality in that many school yard fights are started over imature rumor mongers.

I have read the report too, but I could not verify it. Still going through the news we find the situation deteriorating and the issue of British sailors. I honestly think this is a trap and Iran has been trapped into it. Now they have another reason to go there besides their assumed Neuclear weapons, which is forbidden to any Muslim state and only allowed to those who are declared as 'friendly' by Washington.

I see no reason for the U.S. to attack right now. The U.S. can attack at their leisure, and the "bomb" is going to take Iran atleast 2 more years (very minimum). Although I suppose it may be easier to "deal" with it now I sincerely cannot see us hurting innocent people before we have enough evidence. Not to mention the democrats are in the house and senate, and they don't seem to be too glee about voting for another war.
