Callie's Rich...So Why No Apartment?

Did I miss something, or was making Callie an heiress an afterthought for the writers? I mean, why was she living in the hospital basement when her and George first got together? She obviously has access to her money, because she was paying all that for the hotel right after her and George got married, so why not before that? If I missed the explaination for this, could someone let me know, please?

I was listening to a podcast, they said that callie was a really a millionaire, and that they were just waiting to go public with it. They said that it's the only reason, why a girl would live in a basement, and being a millionaire thinks its romantic to live in the basement of a hospital. It's like she's rebelling from her family that she doesnt want all that money and she could live in the basement, which is easy for a person with lots money. That it's easy for her not to talk about money and don't like to live that way, it's not her money but her family's.

I figured it was going to besomething like that. She didnt have to live in the basement though, She could havelived modestly. She might have to when George runs off with Izzy and takes half of her money..ROFL

yes, there is a very good explanation for this. In one of the episodes, Callie said she spends so much time in the hospital that she somehow made the basement into her home.

Remember when she was living in the basement and was caught by the chief? They talked about how with her right there she got all the best cases right when they came in. It was because she was there first before anyone else. I think that's why she was living in the basement. The other thing he talked about because of the hospital insurance she couldn't stay. Another idea is maybe she was uncomfortable spending that money and didn't want to feel like she was living off her parents? I think she moved into the hotel because of convenience. Close by to the hospital. She could order her meals plus the maids would do all the cleaning and she didn't have to mess with any of that. I've never seen her driving a car, so would assume she doesn't have one? That means she has to do everything within walking distance.

I was wondering the same thing. It doesn't make sense unless she didn't want others to know about her money and to like her for herself and not because she was rich?

Do you remember the episode where George finds out she's sleeping in the hospital basement and she says "I'm not crazy. I just spend so mcuh time at the hospital with our carzy hours, I'm not crazy". I did think she was a little nuts, but that was the explanation at the time.

Good question I have never missed an episode but I may have missed a line or 2 I thought it was kind of a strange story line to take but heh makes the whole callie/George/Izzie thing kind of interesting

I really never thought of that, but you're right.. what happened there! I guess it's even more of a surprise factor now. Maybe she wanted someone to love her for herself and not for her money, so she was acting poor.. (that was a little extreme though, don't you think, lol).

If there was an explanation, I missed it too. I'm a faithful Grey's watcher and I've never heard anything else about it. But you're totally right. Why would she live in the basement of the hospital and now a hotel. It just doesn't make sense. You'd think she'd have some fancy apartment. Maybe she doesn't "want" all the luxury, but who knows.
