What happened to kids being kids?

Why are our children being forced to grow up so fast??
My daughter is nearly 6 months old and will be starting swimming lessons, so I went to buy her some bathers (size 00). You know what I found? The only baby bathers they had were bikinis!! Why does my 6 month old baby need to be showing so much skin?? 6 months!! I had to go to a specialist bathers shop to buy a sunsuit thingy. That is ridiculous!!
My other gripe is Bratz dolls!! My neice turns 7 on Tuesday and I know she likes them so I went and bought her one. Do we really need to have these toys marketed at such young kids?? They all wear next to nothing, with heaps of makeup! I dread the day my daughter is exposed to this!!
Why are these companies trying to sexualise such young children?? Why can't kids be kids, and have dolls that actually cover their bodies?? It is ridiculous and makes me so mad!!

Hello dear, well the things you shared are a common stuff and I'm glad that you really want your kids to want be kids. I've seen many people who just want their kids to do all the western stuff or what is going on in fashion.
The clothes are selected by the parents only and the clothes which are in demand i.e. what the majority people want their kids to wear, only such clothes are kept in the shops. So even the shopkeepers can't do anyyhing.
Also I've observed both the parents working, no problems with that, but at times the children are left so alone that they feel depressed and just go out of control with having wrong conceptions about their parents.
So dear, good that you really want your kids to be kids so do take care of them and let them grow up in a good ,healthy atmosphere.

I understand completely where you are coming from with this. I had the same gripes at the begining of the school year when I was trying to find my 7 year old daughter some new outfits. I don't think you buy a regular pair of jeans anymore. All that I found were the low-rider, hip-hugger style and I don't allow my daughter to wear those yet.
And don't even get me started about the Bratz. They drive me crazy. But like yours, my daughter loves them and thinks that they are just the ultimate. I refuse to buy them for her. But her best friend's mom just picked one up and gave it to her for her birthday last week. I was so not happy but my daughter was absolutely thrilled to actually have one. Even the barbies these days are getting out of control. All of them seem to dress like little hookers.
I keep hoping that this is all a fad and that soon we will be able to find decent clothes to dress children in but it's a long lasting phase if it is.

Yes the kids are growing up way to fast these days. The problem is the parents do have the time because they are always working so the kids are left to fend for themselves. Also the computer plays a big part in it too. I think the parents need to play more of part in their life so they can see what is going on with their children.

You are absolutely right! I know financially its hard to make it these days without both parents working but the kids need to come first!

I'm with you on the Bratz dolls thing, they're really trampy little dolls.
As for the bathers, i'm not sure where you're looking but i managed to get the rashy vest things, 1 pieces & also 2 pieces where there are undies for bottoms & a singlet at the top from Kmart - you can also get them from Target but it depends where you are - I'm In Australia so maybe things are just different here.

I have a young daughter and I totally agree with you. I can't stand the bratz dolls myself. I am trying to keep my daughter a child but it's a losing battle. I will keep her young and put my foot down regarding alot of things, such as make up and ear piercing, and there is no way she will be going out dressed as a mini twenty something at age twelve!
My other big hate is shoes and boots! I don't agree with young girls wearing heels but it is really hard now to find a pair of trendy flat shoes/boots for them!

A lot of people buy the two piece swim suits aka bikinis for their younger children mainly for the reason that it's easier for the child to use the bathroom/change or for a parent to change the child/baby.
It's your choice though. I see nothing wrong with the swim wear these days. My daughter has a two piece swim suit. Some two piece suits are made just for kids where it doesn't really show any skin.
My daughter has a third piece, a skirt to go over the bottoms and the top part goes all the way down and covers all the tummy almost, just a little bit of belly shows, but not enough to be tacky looking.
So I don't really agree with an actual bikini for a child if it looks like one of those that shows to much.
But they do make some really cute ones for kids.
As for the Bratz, my daughter has a few, but I don't buy her Bratz anymore. They have these other dolls out that are called "Bestfriend Dolls" and they are really cute and they don't have so much makeup like the Bratz.

OH MY, you touched one of my nerves when you mentioned those blasted Bratz dolls. If my daughter were still young those things would NOT be in our home. They are hideous and send all the wrong messages. They literally stand for
' a love of fashion,' 'being a fashion slave' and by all appearances, a lack of respect in displaying of one's body. YUK!

Trust me that is only one out of the many things to come. I have found that the 6th graders are wearing less clothing and then the high school less than that. It just seems everything is going hoochie style. If you think about it I would say the Bratz Dolls and the Olsen twins along with the other idols started this trend. I completely understand. I am just glad my daughter doesn't like that stuff. Good LUck.

As a mother of a just turned 12 yr. old girl, good luck! We have been having problems with finding appropriate clothing because she is so tall. She can't wear the girls clothing anymore and I have to go to the teen or womens departments to get her clothes. Most I wouldn't even want to let a teenager wear. Our daughter was also into the Bratz dolls. I think they are kind of ugly. Skimpy clothes, tons of makeup, and their heads and eyes are way to big!

I hate Bratz!! They are so creepy to me. I agree society is making kids grow up too fast. Now don't get me wrong I'm all about letting my daughter play dress up when she gets older. But she will know that that's only to be done around the house. There is a place here called Libby Lou that I absolutely hate with a passion. This is a store for kids and they have can birthday parties there. They dress them up in little skimpy, spandex outfits, put makeup and glitter on them, give them fake hair extensions and teach them little dances. I just think it's wrong. Maybe I'm old fashioned and uptight but I don't want my daughter going there when she's older.

I hear what your saying. I think its wrong that kids should be exposed to this. I wouldn't let my 15 month old daughter wear a bikini and I cannot believe they would sell them. What with all the rise of the pedophiles and strange people we have in the world it is just wrong. When they are old enough to decide then thats up to them, but manufacturers should consider parents as well.

I totally agree with the clothing issue- My daughter is 10-- Tyring to find a pair of jeans that is not low cut?? 10 year old come on.. Is very hard. I'm sorry but I'm not letting my child wear pants that ride low enough to see her undies. It is ridiculous! I can't believe how many bikins there are out-- My daughter has a bit of a tummy so she wears a 1 piece or a 2 piece with the longer top.. This was very hard to find also-- The bikinis are so small!! Very little cloth.. Let kids be kids!

With all these child molesters out there, I would hate to have someone sell bikinis for babies. You can see the result already. I watch Maury and many of the girls are mothers, and a couple of girls already had babies at thirteen. That means they were twelve when they got pregnant. Boys talk about their first time when they are just out of puberty. You'd think that they were back in Africa where one had to have children in their teens because they were lucky to live to their thirties. Besides with dolls and toys for babies, isn't there the danger of the child swallowing the buttons or small fasteners? Surely they should make toys and dolls appropriate. One wonders why they sell such stuff. Perhaps there are child molesters as shareholders. We all have to be careful.

I knwo what you mean about all this stuff. It's kinda tough raising a little girl now days. My 8 year old and I go through the bikini stuff each summer and she's obsessed with Bratz dolls. I don't like them at all. I try to find the ones that aren't so outrageously dressed. Which isn't many. I try to get more Barbie stuff for her which she seems to still enjoy just almost as much.
