I have been working in the house all morning , changed bed linen washed ironed vacuumed and dusted , sat down to do My lot and felt a bit hungry, everything was looking so nice and tidy so I looked for something quick , something that didn't require me to do dishes afterwards , well!! I opened a can of creamed rice pudding and ate it from the can , It was gorgeous and I really enjoyed it . Then I started to wonder how many people would actually do that , I have a friend who lives on her own and sets her tray with the proper cutlery a napkin and a glass , It does look lovely but I always seem to be in a hurry , am I on my own here or do we all do that sometimes , The can is in the bin and I have my time on Mt lot instead of washing my dirty plate lol xx

No, I often eat right from the paper plate, or container if I'm the only one eating from it. I generally only set the table when we sit down to a Sunday or special dinner during the week. We usually eat off of paper plates, but use real silverware and glasses to drink from so there is less to wash. Sometimes though it feels extra special to eat off the Sunday dishes and have everything set out nice -- but it does take extra time and work to get it that way and to clean it all up afterwards. :o)

I love rice pudding ! :) Sounds like you had quite the morning ! If it is just me I don't set a tray or table, but if it's the whole family I sometimes do. Although, it's nothing formal at all, just whatever we need for the meal.

I have certainly cut back since I started to live on my own but I have not resorted to eating out of a can. I only have to rinse all my dishes after I have used them and then wash them once a day.

LOL-- sounds like me- I don't even set the table for lunch-- Lunch is usually a free for all at my house-- We grab it and go outside or on the porch-- sometimes we watch a movie when eating it- Never set the table. Now for dinner- we set the table.. But if I don't need a spoon that night we won't put them out-- we just get out what we need to use that night-- Less dishes to wash after- I think alot of people do this- I don't usually eat out of cans-- That just isn't appetizing to me... but I have seen alot of people who do.

Well, we don't always eat at the table if my stepkids aren't with us. But when we do, we set the table with all the silverware and cloth napkins. I also use good serving dishes for the food, rather than just putting the pot on the table. I like for meals to be relaxed and nicely presented. It makes things taste better, even if they're just simple. If I was just making something like you had, I'd do the exact same thing! :)

tortilla soup - technicolor tortilla soup
In our home we are only two of us, me and my hubby. I don't set a tray or table or any formality when I serve meal for both of us. I do set all formally when we are having guests. But I don't eat from a can either. Atleast I will take the food out in a bowl or dish. Yes, I don't like to wash dishes. The problem is I just don't like to eat from the can.

Oh dear Weemam, you know that it is very bad to ear from a can of any food, but I understand you and why you did this but I am sorry to say that I have not eaten from a can in over 40 years now. But when I want a quick bit of food and don't want to wash up that much I only use the very bare necessities.

I think it's each to his own. I like to do things properly even though I'm on my own but I do relax from time to time. I think it's a question of balance. You enjoy a certain level and the balance can tip either way to a degree and you're okay with that but let the level tip over and upset th balance and action must be taken. I've become very slack since finding MyLot. I've become ok with only doing dishes once a day. I'm rarely in the kitchen so it doesn't worry me too much. LOL

They say that if you really take the time to enjoy your food (set a place, eat slowly and savor your food) you'll feel more satisfied and eat less. I think most of us are in such a hurry these days that standing up, gulping on the run is the norm. If I lived alone I wouldn't bother, but I do enjoy setting a nice place for a family dinner. I guess Easter will be the next time we do that, lol.

I used to set the table all the time when the kids were small but as they grew up they had activities and we all sat at the same times only a couple of evenings.I quite often will just grab whatever. It's nice to throw a carton away when I finish a yogurt rather then pot, pans, plate etc.I'm with you Weemam.

Well, I tend to set the table for hubby and I as it is nice just to have time to sit and chat and catch up with each other, especially if it's been a very busy week. When he works late I tend to do a tray for me and eat in front of the telly :) I use anything that will create a minimum of washing up though LOL Now I'm wondering if we have any creamed rice pudding in a can...hmmmm yummy! xxx

You have been a busy bee this morning. Can you let some of it rub off on me, lol. That is what I need to be doing, and yet, here I am on myLot. It is just hubby and I here at home now, and no we do not set a full table or tray. We often eat on paper plates that can be thrown away. When we use dishes, we usually end up eating on the couch in front of the tv. I only set a full table at Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter anymore. It kind of makes me sad, but on the other hand, I am thankful for not having all the mess all the time.

Set a table? How about I was moving so much today I ate a low-carb protein bar for lunch and kept going! Saturday is my "do all the chores" day, like grocery shopping, taking the car for oil change, etc...So to answer your question, we don't all set the table!

Since I am now the only one home I do this often. I am in a hurry plus I do not like doing dishes either. I have set a tray with all the proper utensils and a glass when I want to treat myself or if someone else is here. When it is just me I eat right from the can.

i dont do it correctly, only on special occasion. usually put food on plate and grab knife and fork and a drink and then eat at table or go eat at the computer table. usually when i have friends over visitng i will set the table.. dont think anything wrong with doing it your own way that suits you and no correct wrong way i think.. if ur in a restuarants theres is i know that

I just did the same thing early this morning, weemam. I only have my 2 girls and me here in the house. Its not my habit anymore to go to a lot of fuss just to prepare so much. Less utensils and plates used, the better I can wash it fast. If I order take out food, then I will eat there in the box directly. I'm actually contemplating buying disposable plates, spoons and forks so I can lessen my workload. Its pretty tiring to keep washing those dirty dishes everyday. :0
