My advice to you is (1) read a lot of materials written in English such as books, magazines, newspapers, etc. (2) watch shows using the English language (3) speak and write the language on a regular basis until you get used to it.

well, I think the best way to improve language is using it. But it is not easy to read english news or novels everyday. It is really a painful process. I like to play PC games which have only english guidence. for example, the ballance. All the words in those game are english. Therefore, you have to understand quite well in order to pass the game. You will not feel boring when you read the game introduction.

my suggestions are : (1) read anything written in english - literature, journal, history, fashion..as in anything.(2)watch tv programs in english like dramas, news, entertainment shows - even if you cannot fully understand yet every word spoken. (3)from the reading materials you have, jot down in a piece of paper english words that are not familiar to you. then get a comprehensive English dictionary and look up for the meanings of each word you want to understand. then memorize each of them. yes! memorize! it's the best way to learn english. coz if you know a lot, your horizons will expand. you can start, say, with 10 words today. then when you have jotted down their meanings, go back to the sentences you got them from and learn how those words were used. you will be able to understand the meaning of the sentences where they were used. then, when you know you can catch up fast, add more words each day, like 20, then go 30..and so on..then on weekends, review all the words that you studied. it's like considering you will have an examination and you are preparing for it. know them by heart and keep them in your mind. i always remember my english classes back in my elementary and high school days. that's how our english teachers taught us and i believe that method is effective. it's a long process, just don't get tired of it. it'll be for your greatest advantage.

Hi, that is great that you want to learn more english well as you know when you learn english that it is good to start off with the smaller words to learn how to pronounce them correctly and this is a little tip and hopefully it hslps you when you try to say anything practise by yourself or with someone that speak english well and break the word up into three letters at a time. Your writing is ok but you just have to learn that when you have a sentence to put a full stop and a space after a comma.

You've came to the right place greenshun!;) Mylot is also the best forum site to learn the english language, as it has members from all over the world and english is the main language of use to communicate here. You can also learn the language by reading literary books, english comprehension textbooks, thessaurus's and dictionaries. Just keep on participating here and try to get involved in more conversations, I'm sure this will provide you a big help in learning more about the english language!;)

Hi! First of all, welcome to myLot! All the responses here are good, so I'll just try to advise you whatever's not yet given out here. In terms of speaking and writing, it's easy to just learn conversation and grammar rules, but nothing beats practice. As for conversing, you need to practice with another person, better if you'd stay for a while in an English-speaking country (because you've no choice but to speak the language). Otherwise, there are tapes or CD's you can purchase which would acquaint you with the "sound" and the proper responses. You can even sleep while listening to it! It does help a lot according to one of my students. As to writing, apart from myLot (hehe), you can also practice by writing letters to people or by having a tutor who would check whatever it is that you'd written. Happy myLotting then!

Buy some DVDs of English-language TV shows. Keep watching them. First time you watch, try to figure out what's going on. Second time, try to understand what's being said. Third time, keep pausing it make sure you know what's being said. You can also try my blog for Chinese learners of English: http://chinaefl.blogspot.com

Wow, since 9? Well, I had learned my English so far from watching movies and mostly plays rendered from Shakespeare. Just continue watching good films and not those that wouldn't be worth it but, if you still want to, go right ahead. It because films are visual as well as audible. Reading helps but, its not as effective as learning things from watching actors delivering lines. You gain information greater from watching. Of course, your watching letters when you read but, they don't move as much as actors do they and are they more colorful? Making them hard to recall often. When you see something, its easier to remember. I'm hoping that your already good at your own language that your just adding English in your skills since, adapting a foreign language and not being adept to your own seems awkward. Hope I helped one way or another like the rest who did their response to this inquiry of yours.

One other thing you can do is (if you can afford), you can get help from a tutor. If you have friends who can help you one on one for free, that is even better. There are plenty of websites that can help you find a tutor. here is a list: www.tutorgator.com www.tutoringzone.com www.tutornation.com
