cable TV

Why should there be an increase in cable every year? Why should we pay exorbitant costs for cable TV? Why should there be a monopoly on one cable company per city? When you live in an apartment you can't get satellite and so why shouldn't there be another way to watch cable. I really miss the "O'Reilly Factor" and I will miss "Rescue Me" and the few good networks that we want instead of paying thousands of dollars annually for old replayed movies and programs we never watch. We cancelled our cable and were left to figure out how to watch the 5 local TV stations we have left because the guy just came in, cut the cable wire, took the cable box and left. Can anyone tell me if they think that in the future we'll see a less expensive way of getting cable? Just wondering.

I don't have cable, either. I find it's too expensive for the little bit of time I spend watching TV. Granted, with cable, I might spend more time watching TV, but even with the antenna I don't watch all the shows I could. I'm just not that interested in watching TV anymore. As for satellite dishes, I have seen some apartment buildings where people have them on their balconies. Would that be a possibility for you? In any case, TV is going completely digital in a couple years, and we won't be able to watch ANYTHING on our present sets, without a converter from the cable company. Wah! No more free TV.

The apartment building I live in doesn't accept dish even on the balcony even though I don't have a balcony side anyway, but I will continue to ask about it, thanks for reminding me. That's not good news about not being able to watch anything on our TV's in the future. No free TV. That doesn't seem right somehow. But thanks for letting me know. I'll have to make up my mind about cable or no TV at all. We can't depend on anything anymore. Thanks for letting me know and for responding.

Perhaps you should consider not having cable at all? I don't get any TV and I find it liberating, I do so much more with my time now rather than revolving it around my favourite TV shoes. If I do want to watch something I just put on a film.
