I have hypoglycemia and so do my 2 children. I have just started a website about it to help fellow suffers. It is just in the early stages and I would welcome any feedback on it.

They say hypoglycemia is more fatal than hyperglycemia or diabetes. Why do you have it? Are you taking medications to lower your blood sugar just like me? Whenever I experience it, I just eat 5-6 hard candies, then go about my usual activities. Attacks of hypoglycemia occur when you eat too little, or you engaged in sudden strenuous activities...you also need to rest during and after an attack...hope this will help you...

Just eating more or frequently to combat hypoglycemia is not sufficient, you must find out the cause for it. Have consulted a physician and run all the tests to look for the primary cause? If all the tests are negative then hypoglycemia is just because you use more calories than you consume, so take care and balance your food intake with your activities. I do get hypoglycemia occasionally when I have not eaten and just eat biscuits if I am out of my home.

Another thing I would like to add to previous posts is staying hydrated. My sugar levels drop dramatically when I am dehydrated. I eat trail mix bars, and granola cereal, pb&j sandwiches on whole wheat or oat bran. Pancakes for breakfast is a no no, but if you must indulge...add a fruit to the meal or eat a fruit a half hour after a sugary meal. And once again stay hydrated!!

I just read a book on hypoglycemia, and believe it or not the help for it is the same as diabetes, it is done with the diet, I recommend you go on to a few sites and read up on it I was very surprised at the idea that the diet for the two was almost the same.

I also have hypoglycemia and agree that it can be difficult to control. Your diet is very important and something that should be discussed with your doctor. Mine told me to do a "high protein, low carbohydrate" diet. He also said to eat three meals with three in-between healthy snacks evenly spaced throughout the day. The high protein will help maintain your blood sugar levels as does spacing out your meals/snacks.
Another factor you should be aware of, especially with two babies, is that stress can and does affect our blood sugar levels. Make sure you are getting at least some "you" time to relax and de-stress each day. I know this isn't always easy and can be nigh on to impossible unless you have a good support system.
Try to work in at least a few minutes for yourself during naptime or after the kids go to bed. Do something you enjoy, take a bubble bath, anything...even a few minutes of quiet time can be a great stress reliever.

I must say I ran across this discussion and it somehow caught my interest. I am new here in MyLot and I hope to share some of my experience about this medical condition.
My mother has diabetes. I am now 25 years of age and I was very cautious when it comes to eating sweets cause of the possibilities that I might acquire diabetes at a very young age. Contrary to my expectations, my condition is the opposite one which is actually, what the doctors addressed in our company, as hypoglycemia. I had an attack while performing my work as a card dealer in a local casino here in the Philippines. Sweat is coming from all over my body. I felt trembling, shaking and dizziness. The atmosphere inside the building was very cold because of centralized airconditioning system but I was wondering why I felt like a fast-burning candle. I convinced myself that there was something not right about what I was feeling at that time. I quickly told my superior that I have to go the clinic ASAP. There the doctor upon seeing me was obviously alarmed about the situation. They told me to lie down and gave me a chocolate drink. I was worried about my co-employees but the doctor said it would be better if I would stay for an hour or two. I dozed off afterwards and woke up after 3 hours. They said I should eat before heading home. From then on, I am now monitoring how I feel each moment. Everytime I feel like shaking, I take in sweets. ^_^
