I do format my system once in 3 months. I don't let it go creeping i want it to be fresh and fast. Every time i format it will take me some 4 hours to complete the whole installation. The programs i install are,
1) Winamp, ITunes - For music.
2) Realmedia player, Windows Media player latest, Quicktime player and Cyberlink Power DVD - For movies.
3) CA eZ eTrust internet security which contains anti virus, anti spy ware, Firewall.
4) Yahoo messenger,Gtalk, MSN messenger - Chat purpose.
5) CC Cleaner - To keep my System free from crap.
6) Mozilla fire fox , Internet explorer Latest version - Browsing purpose.
7) Windows defender - Security.
Thats all i install every time after a fresh format.

Well I would say the best media player would be Windows Media Player 11. Also I use iTunes for the podcasts that I subscribe to, but that's the only reason. Also I have a good avi to dvd converter if you want or need one just PM for more information on that. Also for AV I would suggest getting Avast Anti Virus and AVG Anti Spyware.
